A HAND PAINTED STAINED GLASS WINDOW.....

…. was a delightful find in a tiny village church on one of the Yasawa Islands in Fiji in the South Pacific. I was drawn to the fact that the villagers had made the most of what they had, and had painted the cross on the glass. To me, it was just as beautiful as all the fancy stained glass windows in Europe!

The year was 2004, and we were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. We arrived at those far flung islands on a small 68 passenger boutique cruise ship, the Fiji Princess operated by Blue Lagoon Cruises, which I can highly recommend. It's a great way to see the outlying islands of Fiji. Cruises are for 3,4, or 7 nights and leave from Port Denarau, Nadi, on the main island of Viti Levu.

We had booked and paid for the 7 night cruise, but unfortunately my husband became sick when we were about to return to port to pick up the passengers for the second leg of the cruise, so when the ship returned to port after 4 nights (the 7 night cruise works as 2 back to back cruises – the 4 night and the 3 night) someone from Blue Lagoon took him to see a doctor so that he could get some antibiotics. We then continued on to Natadola Beach, where we were lucky enough to extend our planned stay there for a few more nights till my husband recovered!
