A Review Of Half Of Even Numbers
Recall that when you determine half of an even number by asking yourself which number added by itself gives that even number. Here is a basic chart of even numbers from 2 to 24 with its associated halves.

Example One
Half of 86 is 43 as 43 + 43 = 86.
Example Two
Half of 188 is 94 as 94 + 94 = 188.
Example Three
Half of 2018 can be obtained by using the expanded form of 2018 as 2018 = 2000 + 10 + 8. Half of 2000 is 1000, half of 10 is 5 and half of 8 is 4.
Adding the halves together gives 1000 + 5 = 4 = 1009. The number 1009 is half of 2018 as 1009 + 1009 = 2018.
Quarter Of Even Numbers As Half of Half

A half of a half is a quarter. A quarter is one of four equal pieces in a whole. Quarters can be obtained by taking a half of each of the two halves.
To obtain a quarter of a number take half of the number and then take half of the half.
Example One
What is a quarter of 20?
Half of 20 is 10. To obtain a quarter of 20, take half of 10 which is 5. A quarter of 20 is 5.
You can check that 5 is indeed one quarter of 20 as 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 (or 5 x 4 = 20).
Example Two
Determine one quarter of 64.
One half of 64 is 32. From the number 32 half of that is 16. One quarter of 64 is 16.
Example Three
What is a quarter of 358?
Half of 358 is 179 and then half of 179 is 89 and a half. Notice how this is a case where you need to take half of an odd number.
Example Four
What is a quarter of 1824?
Half of 1824 is 912 and then a half of 912 is 456. A quarter of 1824 is 456.
