An Interesting Résumé Template Done In LaTeX

in #career8 years ago

Hi there. As I am job hunting for full time work in something related to data science, (applied) statistics and such, I am currently using this interesting resume template. This resume template does use LaTeX (lay-tech) which is a typeset program used by math people to create math text.

The LaTeX Resume Template

This LaTeX resume template is from the website:

The .pdf example of the resume is here:

What I like about this resume template is the title as it is simple and compact.

This title part can be done in LaTeX with the code:

\begin{center}
\textbf{\Large David Grant}
\end{center}
\begin{tabular*}{7in}{l@{\extracolsep{3.7in}}l}
3151 2nd Ave.\ W.& \hfill cell.\ 604-831-8171 \\
Vancouver, BC V6K 1K7 & \hfill email.\ [email protected] \\
\end{tabular*}
\\

Another neat feature is the gray shading for the section titles. (Screenshot below.)

My version of the gray shading does not have the border but it still looks good. (Screenshot image looks bad I know)

LaTeX Symbols

Bullet points are often used in resumes. In LaTeX, you can use other symbols instead of bullet points. Here is a screenshot of symbols from this website. A lot of these symbols are math based symbols and would not be good for resumes but symbols such as a star, asterisk, open dot can work.

I use Overleaf to work with Latex and I love it. It is a service free of charge. Here you find it Overleaf What IDE or compiler do you use to work in local in Latex ?

I am using TeXWorks (offline) with MikiTeX . I have not heard of Overleak, I will take a look at it and may give it a try.

RMarkdown also has LaTeX capabilities.

Are you using a Mac or Windows ? Overleaf is great because it king of manages the dependencies in an automatic way so you can focus on what you are writing. Yes, R markdown is also great, I use it every time I need to make a report in .pdf or .html . I use knitr package for that.

I am using Windows. RMarkdown and knitr is quite neat in RStudio.
