My attempts at mining Litecoin

in #cryptocurrency8 years ago

I've read a lot about people mining Bitcoin and other alt coins and being fairly successful at it. So I thought I would try to learn about it. If you have the means to build a monster sized gpu mining rig then by all means knock yourself out. I, however, do not. I wanted to start out cheap and see what I could do.

I went and bought myself a used Gridseed Blade 5 chip scrypt miner. It's hash rate was top of the line, back in 2014. :\ But nonetheless, it is a good start to learning everything involved with mining.

My plan is to run this miner off of a Raspberry Pi 3, to help cut down on power consumption. Rather than hooking it up to my pc and using lots of power. The downside to this idea, I had never used a Raspberry Pi.

I spent a few hours the first day just scrolling thru the Raspbian OS and trying to learn about the RPi and Raspbian in general.

Then, I tried to look into hooking up my miner and start trying to mine some Litecoin. To which I failed and got too tired to keep trying. I couldn't even figure out how to load up Cgminer or Bfgminer.

I woke up on my second day of trying to hook everything up, determined to figure it out. I surfed thru Google and Youtube for a good couple hours, but still didn't find any info that was similar to what I was going thru. Aside from actually getting Cgminer and Bfgminer to work and show up. The major problem I've run into this time is: No devices found.

Every single time I use Cgminer and Bfgminer they come up with no devices found. My miner is all plugged in properly and running like it should. I see a red blinking light on each of the cards. No other lights. I can't seem to find any software that works for the miner I'm using. Or maybe I'm not installing them correctly. I have no clue.

All I know, is that I am determined to figure this thing out and get to mining some Litecoins. Anybody have any technical knowledge of the Raspberry Pi and/or a Gridseed G Blade ASIC scrypt miner? How do I get my RPi to acknowledge my device and actually work? My brain is starting to get fried on it, working on finishing up day three.

If you think you know a solution, please HELP!! But know, when explaining something to me, please do so as if I'm 5yrs old. Lol. Like I said, I'm a noob. I can take some more screen shots tomorrow. I'm giving up for today. Thanks.
