From Yesterday to today it has rained a lot in most areas of Karachi.

A Serene Terrace View

I made a cup of tea for my self and sip on it while enjoying the view from my terrace.
The wind was blowing giving a refreshing breeze and the weather felt cold. As it was raining I felt the drops of rain on my shoulders every where. The sound of rain was soo calming and it looked like the rain drops were dance bouncing at my terrace floor.
The entire scene was so serene and it give me a moment to appreciate Gods nature. And that night, I went to a deep restful sleep feeling super fresh and active in the morning.

I woke up quite early today and I saw the weather was all dark and cloudy. I predicted that it might rain the same today as well.

While I was having my breakfast , It started to rain again and It was raining to heavily that I can feel the sound of rain from the terrace in my living room. I went to my terrace and I can literally feel the slaps of rain on the terrace floor and on my hands.

The weather started feeling cold again just like last night and it rained again for like 2 hours straight. We were thanking God for giving us such a weather and appreciating nature.

But for me all of this appreciation faded away when I saw a problematic face of my maid. First, We thanked her for coming today in such a bad weather condition. Secondly, She requested my mom if she can just do the chores and clothes for today and leave early.

Upon, asking the reason she told us that last night was a disaster for her and her family.
She told us how her and all of her family members had to relocate and switch places ever time it rains heavily.
She lives in a "KATCHI ABADI" and they have to suffer a lot in such weather conditions.

The Hidden Costs of Heavy Rain

Katchi Abadis or slums are residential areas where people who lack money, education and other resources are usually located here . Karachi has more than 100s of katchi abadis all of which are located at the local areas. People living here usually doesn't have much of life quality.

People located in such areas are not very organized and mostly they are just trying to make both ends meet all the time. While, the man and boys work in the factories the women too works at factories or they work as maids.
My maid comes from the same area. Due to such a heavy rain her house was completely drained in water. And she had to take her belongings and go to live some where else urgently.

Due to weather hazards People living at such areas have no time to decide but rush to live some where else with there kids. The people living at such areas are uneducated and lack awareness and so they have many children's. So evacuating from one place to another with 5 to 6 children's and carrying your belongings is such a huge problem . Its a mess completely.
I can`t imagine the pain one has to go through when there houses are completely destroyed and they have no wear to go. Due to such reasons most of them start living on the streets. It is so saddening because there is no support and no community guidelines for them.
The people have less to no belongings with them. They usually carry them in small plastic bags or baskets and take it with them to roads of nowhere.

Is it only the locals who are affected??

No!
We might be at ease in our houses but what about our fathers ,sons, daughters who have to travel daily. Its a war for them as well.

Transportation Issues:
Roads here are completely destroyed and with daily increasing population of Karachi . It is a war for people travelling in auto rikshaws ,public transport and bikes.
The ones riding on bikes have to be very very careful ,Each and every day there are 100s of accident reported and most of them are due to multiple reasons but when it rains , bike sliding becomes the most prominent issue and people die because of it.

Health issues: Water contamination
Other than that health is an other issue. Due to heavy rain , our water can be highly affected leading to skin diseases , infections and what not.
Water taste is affected and can also give odors ,disinfectants and what not. It is another issue and can affect every single person who have contact with it. Like wise, Hygiene is also affected. The water we use is contaminated which affects an individuals personal hygiene leading to infections again.

Combined sewer overflows CSOs:
It is the most occurred problem that usually happens to citizens experiencing rain. Because of poor and very old sewer systems the rain water is mixed with the sewage water. Making the water polluted , infected and also causing problems. That's the main reason for skin rashes and acne on our faces and bodies. Because these issues aren't resolved and we might not have any idea but we are using this mixed water for our personal usage as well as cooking and daily works.

These are only some issues that are highly problematic there are many other issues as well that are caused due to heavy hazards.

Is Rain a blessing or a disaster?

Rain is a blessing of God no offense. But I think each and everything has its own limitations. If things are within the limits they are fine . If they are beyond limits they become a problem and we have already seen how much they can impacts an individual life.
At the very end, I am grateful for what I have , where I live and what I get to eat. I am beyond grateful for each and everything.
