RE: Improved Curation Rewards are Still a Necessity

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

Yup Steem badly need that

content consumer

thanks for sharing and popping up the issues, here are some thoughts for all to consider to help Steem curation rewards go from

this:

to this:

how about actually creating anticipatory and user interaction curation using proven economic ideas, instead of just a statically rebalancing a number ..... aka get good behavior by rewarding folks who really enjoy finding content instead of farming it out (or really enjoy getting paid for finding content), and make folks really be recognize for their duration and seniority of steempowerness (was going to type SteemProwessness ...Ha!):

  1. Reduce delegated voting power to 80%....see what happens (or more radical make delegation start at 50% SP and increases over time to 80 or 90%)

  2. Why not propose increase curation by 5% every minor hf so it goes from 25% to 50% over say 6-12 months (or 48 months)....and we all see what happens? imagine Steem anticipation goes up and people buy before each hardfork....like dividend quarter payment to stock

and if you want something more radical that can really shake things up and bring Steem purchaser (who normally keep it only in their exchange) to actually create a Steem account powerup even if they don't create content:

  1. Reduce power down to 3 days (say 1/3 every 24 hours), then we don't need savings since savings IS powerup.... AND balance it up with:

  2. Let those who Vest earn 20-25% of the reward pool (instead of a measly 10%)....but let the vesting accrue geometrically to 20-25% over say 13 weeks or 1 month, or 13days....just imagine, suddenly it's really like that 2% you get in a bank CD (or savings in the 80s) for keeping you Steem powered in a personal wallet and another reason to visit the ecosystem.

  3. Let the max curation reward (100% of 50% Curation) be dependent upon duration vesting/powerup, the longer you powerup (or delegate, many of the top witness who runs bot will hate this....but it really makes sense) the more curation you should get....so all new Curation reward will also take time to vest

Example for #3....SP start as low as inflation percentage so ~8% (so a 10,000SP veteran holder has more power than a new orca whale with 100,000K Steem) or 50% at most (if you're a pussy or feel like a little prick) and grows to 100% over a period of time in say at least 3-6 months about 1 economic winter to really reward the loyal peeps (of whatever curation reward.....this will radically change behavior)

now if you're asking wtf will this do....there will be a ton of benefits....including forcing (by temptation) the whales to liquidate at higher prices bringing greater decentralization to ownership, disrupting bot payout, increasing curation reward for long-term curators, rewarding long-term Steem power...hell SP-ing might become a bigger addiction, improve or as some say return some value to proof of brain, basically everyone will be powering up, averaging out the % of powerup will out way almost every other stake/vested coin if we go this route, you can also bet folks will be reviewing their auto vote from time to time to make sure they are not missing out at 8-100% SP Vest within a dynamic power up ecosystem that gives you now a meaningful long term 50% curation, tons of game example, tons of behavioral freedom example, and if we get promising results with this level 1 mod...yes we can even take this to level 2 with improvement and gradually become visible for many to see like an open source proof-of-brain algo that is google-ques worthy, ...etc, etc.

could do a trending post on this but i'm too lazy.....so feel free to chat me up goto COM discord link somewhere in @comedyopenmic / #comedyopenmic and I'll give you the economic details

this kinda better mouse-trap "Fairness" will disrupt and make people Vest more, curate more, delegate wholesale less (sorry bot owners), .....

what else would could we expect as the alternative outcome? if it's only 50% curation alone, then 2016 brief 50% experiment would just sort of repeat itself only with a bigger populous of scammers....ahem I mean bot and/or alt self-upvoters, and other short term thinkers

look the point is, if we're going to experiment, then lets really experiment, if we don't give it a fair shakeup then we can't really so we gave it our best shot (which btw. we should do new experiment as evolving Steem its really the ultimate form of proof of brain neh? :P)

btw. this is no simple 3 lines of code here, but it's doable by Steemit Inc, and can be calculated rather effectively, suddenly all the long term thinkers get rewarded alot more......then watch what happens to newbies investors, traders, and the shift in the mentality of Steem holders who has any significant Steem (hackers, scammers, and bored dads and your social aunt at home surfing the web included)

Sort:

oh yeah all Witness Votes should not just decay in Steem, it should expire annually like a real Election......if topics and people change opinion, then so would better ideas and better implementations, and while we're at it, we should make it top 50 witness, (top 20 is like 2 years ago ....that's like 14 crypto years in dog years or something)........

....and to make sure they are really technically savy if they miss more than x percentage block a year (say 5%) block they get bump to spot 51 for 1 month until they data comes back inline....haha

ok better quit while and eat some yummy cheese cake :D

Some interesting points touched by the @dj123 here , if my opinion is worth anything around here ( i'm not a techy guy so many of the ''hows'' I would not know how to address but I think it's worth debating the points here )

1.1 Reduced delegated VP sounds interesting but I would not kick it to something like 50% so drastically .. while a small percentage reduction might make people consider a bit better to who they delegate and what his/her SP is used for but a drastic measure might have a negative impact on ''heavy SP supporters'' .. I'm a big delegator myself and if my VP was cut down so much I would probably have to reconsider the amounts I delegate . Plus what would be the impact on communities ? accounts with many delegations from different users for a particular mission? - some thoughts to be put on the table.

1.2 It could be an interesting way to address the adjustments on % rewards between curators/authors .. to gradually adjust over a period of time . I have seen many steemians miss interest completely because of the debate of the 50/50 put into action at once , and some of these users are bringing a lot of support and quality .. so maybe there is a middle ground around this?

2.1 Hmmm.. don't know about a 3 day power down.. though I do think the ''savings'' feature stays pretty much unused by most since Powering up IS saving .. but having a too fast power-down might kick chaos .. powering down and leaving over a reaction maybe? who knows.. the market is volatile and so this might be a little chaotic in my opinion . Also .. an account gets hacked and gets powered down and emptied in 3 days? .. sounds risky .

2.2 and 2.3 though the number specifics I can't really address , I agree on incentive to power up.. that's what we want most accounts doing.

About the witnessing , definitely more parameters than just Steem , not sure about yearly elections since it might be chaotic but I agree that we would not want a ''potato witness'' siting on one of the top spots just because it amassed a certain amount of SP on votes . Again .. i would not know the ''how'' around this one.

I really wanted cheesecake but after the first picture.. i'm not hungry anymore.

Just my two cents :)

ah finally someone to discuss this with

1.1 is just start of delegation power of 50%....over time if you really love a community, the community will gain 90%......truth is we can always make it a duoality. eg. Mode1: 80% flat rate to bots or short term (or lower till we reward curators > bot reward delegators).... Mode2: 50% to 90-to-99% over a significant period (say 13 weeks or even 3-6 months) for serious long term community delegation. Once you select the mode you can't change it ....undelegate and you start again

1.2 yes this one is one of my favourite changes....personally i think this will radically change expectation management ....this will surely reward the influx of content consumer or train more and increase interaction

..... just imagine the dopamine hit the content creators will get with all the new responses and upvotes :D

2.1, 2.2, 2.3 the fact that a new power up will have such a low SP at start will ....will mean 2 things:

A) The reward pool will become ever so more sacred
B) The can power up and power down immediately and they won't rob the reward pool by new powerup and even new coin stackers.....nowhere near as much as now with their new earnings (be pretty cool if we can start everyone at 8% in serious hardfork...but i doubt the whales will allow that.....bwahaha)

btw. we can also create a default power down to default 3 days (in 3 payments), and have a slider to adjust that to 30 days (powerdown will now happen every 10 days) for the super conscious....if you can recover in 1 month , then recovery honestly won't work anyways.

Extra:

About the witness vote power going to zero in 1 year....thats just to make any witness reading this break a sweat, shake up the discussion with, can be anything radical like 1/2 every 30 days (a geometrical decay) or a 4 years decay so they have Trump powers.....currently Steem Witnesses are more like the federal reserve chair-persons and fellow members (voted by the bank for the bank basically)

Hahaha....darn good feedback!
