DIY Paneled Interior Door
We wanted to give our plain, hollow-core doors a little visual interest, so we added some trim and painted the door black - and the transformation is gorgeous! This project is simple and fast, and you'll be amazed at the difference it makes in your home.
We started off by marking lines on the door where we wanted our panels to be. We wanted three panels, so we simply measured about 3" from the outside of the door on all sides, then drew lines for the panels based on where the doorknob is (so we didn't have a panel intersecting the doorknob). There isn't an exact science to this part - it's just about what look you want!
Next up, we gathered our trim. We used one ornate piece of wall trim (which is preferable to using a baseboard piece, which is wider on one end) and one small piece of plain trim to beef it up a bit.
We used wood glue and small brad nails to attach the wood to the door. We mitered the corners (cut at 45-degree angles) to help it look more polished.
Once the trim was attached, we used caulk to fill in the nail holes and camouflage the seams where the pieces meet.
Once everything was completely dry, we painted the door black!
And finally, the
And finally, the door was ready to be hung back up!
