Really cool skull. Can't wait to see the finish product.

Me too. It's so nice I want to take my time with it.

you have a new follower here @steevc told me about your creativity..I had some grateful dead jewelry...a fantastic crystal with color running through it ..red streaks that intensified when I would would on a client doing massage..it was a necklance lost in a house fire...

I remember watching my dad make my Mom's wedding ring using silver ..

on my bucket list to work with it one day. I checked and I am already following you..great post..

Sorry you lost it in a fire, that's a tramatizing experience. We had some close calls with wildfires here last year, but was fortunate enough to stay out of harms way. Sadly a lot of my friends lost their homes in Santa Rosa where I grew up. Glad it's the rainy season now... Thanks for the follow and support.

Hey, what's the difference between sterling silver, and the .999 silver you would get in coins and such?
Cool stuff by the way.

The fine .999 silver barely tarnishes at all. The coins are sitting on a couple silver rounds I hammered out by hand. The skull was part of a sterling butter knife.

Thanks!
Is that why the 90% coins also tarnish quickly?

And which one is "better", or more "valuable", the Sterling or 90%?

Sorry, I'm still learning.

Yes the copper in it makes it tarnish more easily. .999 is the purest so it's the most valuable by weight. A coin could have more value depending on the rarity.

I was replying while you were posting most of the answer already. lol, thanks again!

The .999 means that it is 999 parts per 1000 silver. (Basically pure silver) sterling is 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper per 1000. The copper makes it more durable for jewelry. Old U.S. coins were 90% silver 10% copper and alloys. Different countries used different alloys and percentages of precious metal content for coins.
