epiphyllum oxypetalum, Wijaya Kusuma Nusantara, Bangkawali at 22.42 pm

Saleum Steemians 🤠

We have 3 species of this flower in our front yard, this one was planted by my belated mother and 2 others were planted by my wife. She's so excited when she found the ready to bloom one yesterday's afternoon and last night, she's sitting next to the flower to enjoy the view and the fragrance till the rain poured down before midnight. She missed the full bloom time for sure.

This flower might be not too popular for the everyone because it's not convenient to wait for its blooming time at night and the scent is somehow scared people 😂 imagine if you have jasmine, plumeria, magnolia champaca and red rose are blooming at the same time together in the middle of night, you would probably think "oh no, kuntilanak is coming"

But for the epiphyllum's lovers (like my wife), they won't sleep till they have enough (which means if you have 50 GB memory storage, you'll take 10 photos/second and keep snapping from dusk to dawn 🤣)

I'm not exaggerating things, I've seen my wife doing that so often. In the past She'd sneaked out from the bed in the middle of the night just to capture some pictures of the full bloom time (around 11 pm-2 am), then complaint being bitten by mosquitoes .

Oxypetalum is the biggest in size amongst the species but not amongst the family of epiphyllum. Many hybrids are as big as it and even bigger. The hybrids usually colourful and less fragrant, many of it also not blooming just at night like the species (about 7 species).

Even though there are dozen of thousands hybrids with colourful flowers, the pure white oxypetalum can be classified as the best amongst all. okay, that's what my wife said when she couldn't afford to buy a 15 cm piece of leaf from the red one for 750K IDR

party is over, 4.15 am this morning, the queen is dying

That's it... Waiting for this beautiful flower to bloom is not challenging like waiting for the aurora or blue moon, but still...not everyone is lucky enough to watch it blooming too.
