#1  Elon Musk lived in South Africa as a child 

Elon Musk was born in 1971 as the son of a South African engineer and a Canadian model in Pretoria. His childhood was overshadowed by the apartheid regime in South Africa, with bloody clashes between blacks and whites, and political isolation from the rest of the world. At the age of 17, Musk emigrated to Canada and eventually came to the United States as an exchange student.
