Macro-filters Marumi DHG Macro 3 | Photo Review

in #review7 years ago

Hello Steemit!
Finally I received the parcel with filters. And at the advice of a friend I decided to do a short review.
But first a few words about my camera. I shoot on a small Olympus with x2 crop factor. I've been wanting to try macro for some time, but for now the largest shots I was allowed to do with a simple telephoto lens 40-150 mm, which in terms of full-frame corresponds to a 80-300mm focal length. It has a minimum focusing distance of 0.95 m. So once studying reviews of lenses, I learned about the existence of macro-lenses, which are screw on the lens like filters and reduce the minimum focusing distance! (Please do not laugh at me! It's only my first year of studying photography!) Of the downsides of this solution is really severely affecting the image quality at the edges. And You can't use autofocus, which macro do not particularly need, as I know. How much it affects the quality of pictures, I decided to find out personally. And together with the polarized I ordered a couple of macro filters.

Why a couple? These filters differ in the values of dioptres from +1 to +10. The higher the value, the smaller the focusing distance. Looking at sample photos, I realized that I need at least +6. Thus they can be combined, twirling each other, then the values are added. So to achieve the desired result, I ordered two filters +3.

An important point to consider is the camera lens. All mine have different diameter for filters. And knowing that the minimum focus distance will decrease - it is important in the end does not abut the lens to your subject! =)
My choice fell on the above-mentioned telephoto. The result is the minimum distance decreased, until about 30 cm!

Then there are the test photos. Without processing and artistic design, just on the windowsill trying not to lose focus. Models made hats of acorn and burr who returned with me from the forest on the laces. Under the photos are links to the original sources without any compression, for those wishing to look closely.

Oiginal

These two photos were taken at maximum 150mm. The quality really deteriorates from the center. It's especially noticeable on a stick hats. But in the center it's ok, the detail is not so bad. By the way, I tried shooting with hands on 150mm in dim lighting and it was very hard! And to grab more you has to close the aperture much. Not to raise the ISO, I had to get a tripod. Below pictures at 62 mm, the same frame with closed and open aperture. First f20, second f4.5.

Overall first impressions are positive. I think this is a good opportunity for the first steps in macro-photography without the large expense of a separate lens. The weekend promised clear weather, and I sure will test these lenses on the nature. So to be continued!

I only use mobile apps with macro feature because I can't afford to buy all that. LOL
