The future of transport appears very green. Goodyear has just introduced a new tire called Oxygene, which integrates live moss to help improve air quality while traveling. In addition, Oxygene is 3D printed with recycled tires and includes technology to help increase the safety of pedestrians.
The Oxygene tire incorporates moss that grows on its side wall, which absorbs moisture through the tread to feed the plants inside. The moss sucks carbon dioxide and releases oxygen, and the energy generated by that photosynthesis also lights a light in the tire that alerts pedestrians if the driver is turning, stopping, etc...
The tire is made of recycled tire powder printed in 3D. It also has integrated connectivity that could be useful in the autonomous vehicles of the future. With more than 300 million tires in US landfills each year, the Goodyear tire is a sustainable solution to a serious problem.
