A dark and deformed rock serenely navigates a river of lava, seemingly immune to the immense heat and kinetic energy around it. Slowly, it advances like a ship making its way to the deep bed of the infernal river. Then, for the observer's pleasure, the thing breaks in two, spreading its entrails in the fiery flow.
The video that corresponds to this scene was captured along the "fissure 8", a rapid flow of lava that emerges from the current eruption of Kilauea volcano. Ikaika Marzo, a local activist, shared her film with Hawaii News Now and it went viral on the Internet.
