A Bolivian lawyer makes houses with PET bottles for people in extreme poverty

in #nature7 years ago

Inspired by the idea of building homes with the reuse of materials, more specifically PET bottles, for people living in extreme poverty, Bolivian lawyer Ingrid Vaca Diez created the Casas de Botellas project.

After investigating how to carry it out, he found an efficient way using glass bottles, cement, lime, sand, glue, sediment and organic waste, as well as PET bottles.

She made her first house, which had 170 square meters with approximately 36,000 2 liter PET bottles in 2000.

The method is to fill the bottles, tie them and then fix them with lime and cement.

After 14 years, Ingrid says you can build a house in just 20 days, with the help of future residents. In total, they have helped create 300 of these houses.

The project has helped people from Argentina, Mexico, Panama, Uruguay and Bolivia itself. Ingrid is already thinking about the construction of bottle houses in Brazil, where she believes it is easier to pick up bottles, due to the fact that the country has a more advanced recycling culture.

Sort:

Probably very heat resistent houses... since every bottle has lots of air for insulation.

Yes man, the houses are fresh and strong too
