Tips about bonsai

Choose a tree that grows in your environment and climate. If you are staying in a hot climate place, dont go for trees that grow in cold climates and vice versa.
Buy a nursery plant with reasonably thick trunk. Dont try to grow from seeds as this will take a pretty long time for you to make it into a bonsai.
If the trunk is not thick, I would advise you to grow the tree in a big grow bag or ideally put it in the ground so that it grows fast and thick. Once the trunk is fairly thick enough with lot of branches, uproot it from the ground and put it in a shallow bosai pot and shape it accordingly.
The soil should have good drainage, good aeration and good moisture retention properties.
Do remember to fertilize the plant every 15 days during the growth season.
Do not water the plant only a daily schedule basis. Water only if the soil is dry. Sometimes during the summer season, you may have to water it twice a day. During winter season, you may need to water it only on alternate days. It all depends on whether your soil is dry or not.
Keep pruning the branches, so that you get lot of branch ramification.
Once a year, when you see the roots in your bonsai pots coming to the surface, that means the tree is root bound and it is time to prune the roots. Remove the tree from the pot. Prune 1/3 of the roots and repot it again in fresh bonsai soil.
Try to keep your bonsai at preferably 1 foot height. image
