Why Steem Will Fall

in #steem10 years ago

here the aspects and events that will make Steem Fall

1st. Closed system.

I can't see any important collaboration with any newspaper or magazine. What makes a community is people and twitter and reddit are not a way for this. A community is made of valuable people that shares knowledge with people who cares about it. I can't see any useful contribution for real life, like how to do articles or piano lessons.

2nd. Old fashion homepage.

The homepage looks like first version of DIGG.COM. This is not OK. it should like pinterest. I love pinterest. Don't you?

3rd. No Tour.

I can't see any tooltips. Balloons that tell you what's here and there. Steamit don't care about User Experience.

4th. People is money driven.

People want money, and don't care about quality and long term wellness for other people. This is related to 1st point. Small community.

5th. Google don't like steem.

Very low visibility on Google. That means website structure is not following w3c standards and google rules.
No Google No Future.

Steem have an enemy: Ethereum. ETH will empower anywebsite with digital currency, and steemit will be useless since all website will have this functionality.

It's fascinating to observe this growing myth about Ethereum. People tend to get exited how Ethereum will empower them but notice how general those statements always are.

In reality Ethereum is just an empty space (plus exposure to a large number of users) but if you don't have a good idea for a smart-contract, Ethereum will not fill this gap for you. Quite the opposite - there will be fierce competition, so that weak or badly executed ideas will die quickly.

With Ethereum you can (virtually) create your own cryptocurrency, with the supply you want. Websites like pinterest, howto, makeuseof, instructables could now have same functionality as steemit in no time. Even if I like steemit is not a winner there are a lot a things a community like this should have. For example, content templates, for each type of content: article, how to, question, discussion. The post I did "Why Steem Will Fall" it's not intended to be the truth but just a list of weak points and community teaser. As a result for now I can see only flat answers, no real solutions. But there is movement and this is good. Things don't happen, people make it to.

That's the point - they could not have the same functionality.
Adding a crypto-currency to a website is trivial and Ethereum is not needed for this.
What is not trivial is to make a financial ecosystem which a new user can join without making an initial investment. This is something that cannot be replicated (unless you port Steem into Ethereum - but it's not possible as Ethereum requires the existence of transaction fees).

I am reserved against most of the assertions this article makes. If I were in the IT team running building the UI, right now the only thing I would add, would be a tag cloud page to choose from grouped posts.
Perhaps, I would also add a field while submitting a Story, where the user would optionally group the story to a specific predefined category. The set of predefined categories should consist of already established tags, or topics the IT Dpt. feels like steering, or incetivizing the community to elaborate.

Constructive Comments leads to better design.
Thank you for your input

you are one of the few people that got my message. hope to see you soon again on Steemit

Every one of your concerns is already under active development. Implicit in your post is the assumption that we won't improve things as time and money allow.

Interesting point of view. I guess I'm looking at Steem from the other side. Here's some counterpoints

  1. Steem is open. No-one can stop anyone from using it as they like. Steem is full of quality content, only that the target audience is a little limited still. Time will fix it.
  2. The homepage is still beta, but I think it is the most elegant home-page of any social media. Non-cluttered and no ads. Just content.
  3. I agree, holding hands of new users would help.
  4. Steem has something for people who are after money, and for those who look for quality content. This is also a good gathering point for all the people caring about the long-term well-being of humanity. The community is growing at an astounding pace.
  5. Google will love steem once links start pointing here.
  6. Ethereum people love Steem. I love Ethereum and Steem. Steem is already doing what you envision ethereum to do sometimes in the future.

Have a nice day!

Now you seem to not believe friend

only being aware of the negative aspects you can build the state of art opera.

Upvoted not as agreement with the message but agreement with the idea of expressing critical points of view and identifying areas for improvement

I would change the title because no one can see the future and prejudge. Ι agree to some of your points especially on making steemit more pleasing to the eye and google-friendly. I think that heavy voters should be more careful to where they put their votes because they cause tendenies. Every financial ,economic and around steem posts has support .I dont thing that we are trying to make a financial crypto centralized foroum ,this will be boring.Help people keep it real dont guide thematology .When i scroll down i want to see different stuff .I want to get information ,laugh educate pass my time
Make steemit a multicategory magazine where people have the ability to exchange their ideas

you could go directly to
1."funny" topic

  1. https://steemit.com/@modeprator/recommended
    ... OR...

I bet in a couple of weeks we will be able to choose some topics and some followers to see only relevant content to us....

  1. We already have writers from magazine who are coming on the platform such as Dash Magazine
  2. Welcome to Beta. This is already a known issue but..did you know we convert about 10% of the organic and referral traffic right now?
  3. Patience, I know they are working on this
  4. I dont see how that is a negative...maybe you have a negative perception of money.
  5. Google, by nature, takes his sweet time to like a website. But already, we are seeing increase in organic traffic. (A significant one)

Great to discover that we have already Dash Magazine writers here.
Google .... the source code is not optimized and any web developer will agree. I don't know who you are cryptoctopus but you speak as a member of the team, Google well it's actually penalizing this website, and this is bad. If you have a bad start, it's hard to recover. I have a positive note, but, people and work can drive things in good direction and I can see with this post that people are active.
