Natural Medicine - Chilli and clove healing salve

Chilli and Clove Salve

Well i’ve been wanting to make this for a while and it seemed like today was the perfect day to do it.

I’ve been wanting to do some video content for a while but like with many things my confidence often stops me, so go easy on me 😆

Disclaimer
I in no way claim any responsibility for the accuracy or application of this information, im very much a novice with natural medicine and would hate to see anyone have an issue because of it, i can vouch chilli in the eye is not fun!!! Do your due diligence, stay safe and have fun!

laying out the ingredients

I often find the grind of life leads me to push hard long days that often lead to tension headaches, one thing i hate doing is taking pills unnecessarily and potentially forming a dependency on them.

With that in mind i set about looking into natural ways to relieve tension headaches

Ingredients used

100% beeswax
Sunflower oil (easily substituted for others)
Home grown dried chilli
Clove essential oil
Eucalyptus essential oil

The base

The beeswax is the main base of this and will be used to “carry” the other ingredients. The sunflower oil is added in a quantity that will depend on what consistency you want your salve to be.

I added roughly 50% of the overall weight in sunflower oil and this lead to a firmer salve which is perfect for what i want as it will stop me using it all super quick, but when i do it again i'll probably add in a bit more sunflower oil to create a slightly softer finish.
Why chilli?
To summarise this, its to do with the properties of the Capsicum contained within. When reading up on this it has anti inflammatory and analgesic properties which sounded perfect for what i was interested in, It’s actually much more interesting than i thought as id only ever though of them as fiery little things added to my cooking but its something im going to look into in more detail off the back of this.

Ignore the oregano oil i chose not to use it in the end

Clove oil
Well this was an interesting one, not one i know much about over than its used in fish keeping for anesthetizing fish and used widely for treating toothache for its aesthetic properties. I did a bit of research into it and found a lot of warnings and conflicting information, but reading around it appears to a good anti inflammatory and pain reliever, (also good for premature ejactulation aparently 😆could explains the funny looks when i asked for it and said it wasn't for my teeth haha!)

Eucalyptus oil
This is another great essential oil for pain relief and has a wonderful smell, im really looking forward to using this in other applications when i can.

I can’t begin to explain how much i enjoyed making this

Step one - Cut up the bees wax and melt
Step two - Cut up the chilli and add to the wax
Step three - add the essential oils (I went with 6 drops clove, 8 drops Eucalyptus)
Step four - add in the sunflower oil and stir
Step five - allow to cool and check consistency
Step six - remelt and add more sunflower oil if required
Step seven - pour into containers and allow to cool
Step eight - rub into those afflicted areas and feel it work wonders

Massive thank you to everyone involved in the @naturalmedicine community, for sharing your passion and giving me the drive to learn more about the world we live in and all those amazing plants that can nourish, heal and help us grow.

Upvotes, resteems and follows are great and truly appreciated. However a meaningful comment is worth so much more, don’t be afraid to say hello.

Thanks i really appreciate the kinds words, deffinatly had a confidence boost after the kind feedback from everyone, its worked better than i expected in all honesty i was worried that some of it was placebo at first but but its been great at taking the edge off things, ive used it on my back and elbow also and its kept me off painkillers all week. The clove oil seems to be a big factor in this i think to knick the edge off to a manageable level. Thanks for stopping by!
