Why do about 70% of students detest and hate mathematics so much??
Why is the subject considered the hardest to understand by students??

This question is very germaine in this education epoch .
Mathematics is the least difficult subjects among the lot . There is therefore , no logical reason to be afraid or detest Mathematics .
It assumed its ignominy be ause of poor teachers handling of the subject.This began decades ago when the evil spirit of "MATHEMATICS is DIFFICULT" is sown by I'll trained teachers who coined various fear inspiring words and to qualify Mathematics.
Quadratic Equation was demonised with ""ALMIGHTY FORMULA' for simple substitution method .
Every day Arithmetic was dubbed "Word PROBLEM" which PROBLEM??
Mathematics is thus associated with "PROBLEM" instead of "SOLUTION TO PROBLEMS "
Subsequently, HOW VARIABLES CHANGE WITH A CONSTANT " is christened "HARDER or ADDITIONAL or FURTHER MATHEMATICS"
All , I think was meant to drive fear into the psyche of Scholars !!
These culminated into what we have today . Vehement opposition and hatred for the subject unnecessarily is the result today !
Conclusively , Teachers are the chief culprit of this malady .
I was a victim . My lowest grade in Secondary School Terminal Examination was in Mathematics. I barely eked out a necessary pass to enable progression to the University!
