The Climb: What Will I Do with My Hard-Earned Steem Power?

I will use it to upvote good quality content and not the authors. I don't have a lot of steem power yet but I believe being a whale is a state of mind. I will sound like a whale here, and be what a whale should be. I'm not only here to make money off curation, for a few cents? I will reward those who really work hard for their content, not because I want to have a slice of the pie, and not because I'm friends with the author. I will reward those who truly create. I will not reward based on how much the author cares about the community or those who only power up. Some people live off writing by the way, it is just the economic situations of some countries are really bad, people are overworked and underpaid. So let people withdraw their earnings if they need to put something on the table, and try not to judge them for that. At least they are not powering down. I hope their time enough would prove they care about the community and the money you use to fuel the platform.

It turned out, it will never be enough, also known as greed. This is what puts me off big time, it is not the money but the emotion with regard to money is what makes him/her ugly in my eyes. It taints the person, the art, and other beautiful things in this world. It is what makes people go around being proud of what they have, and what they might lose. And when they lose, they wish they have shared it. Only then they will realize that nothing really belongs to anyone. I don't wish for anyone to lose, I just wish for some people to wake up to reality before they go crying like babies in regret. Anyway, this is not a perfect world, but we can be the change.

It will be a difficult climb and it is not always crowded up there, in fact, you might even find yourself alone. Would it be better to go back down where everyone is having fun, or share the happiness and climb with few others? Wouldn't it be better to appreciate beautiful things when shared?

I can only give all of my love - all or nothing. That is why every day, I browse my feed to reward those who put their time and effort to a post. Believe me, if you know how it feels, then you will know how to reward. There can only be 10 a day, unfortunately. I really read and choose. I don't have all the time in the world to divide my upvote. Please be reminded by reading my description above. It might be my own cheap way to label myself but it also sets your expectations with regard to what I write about. I might bruise your ego from time to time, that can make you go straight to the comment section to yell without even reading. I can shower people with kisses but I don't write to please people. I am your sweet little Alice in Wonderland here, who also knows when to say that you're nothing but a pack of cards!

Recently, I posted something about the key for the writers and artists to stay in the community, which is to not care about the money, to avoid total disappointment due to the unfair curation, slippery system and some fellowship out there. I got interesting comments in defense of our beloved votebots. But there's another surefire way to stay in the community too - care about the money. Quite a paradox but it has greater benefits.

Yes, I didn't put my own money here but think of what my time is worth. In the end, I also put my money. We don't know what goes behind the scene and what the author is going through. We don't really know if the result is effortless, hard work or just pure dumb luck. Turn off this comparison mode, it is poison, we should love what we do. If we are hurt and come in defense of our egos, it means we are questioning our own ways.

Why would you even care about what I think? Everything is just my dumb opinion anyway, apply whatever works for you.

I also feel only good content should be rewarded. It pains me to see people throw up one paragraph or a question, like what's your favorite color, and they make $40 dollars off of it. ...On the other hand, there are a couple people I've gotten to know here in my two months (2 users). We always have something to say about each other's posts and we've been rising in the ranks together. I always give them my vote now because I know them so well and the quality of work they present overall. So, it's not a big deal now when my vote is 3-4 cents, but I see myself giving them my vote all the time when it's worth 100 dollars a pop. So I reluctantly sympathize with whales upvoting their friends. They have no obligation to use their vote in any manner than what they please. My other 8-10 votes I give to people solely based on their post, so I have a good mix. But I wonder what I will do when I have 12 close friends on here that I always want to reward. I'm also undecided about that vote slider thing- This is actually the most I've thought about all this because at the stage I'm at with 140 followers it doesn't much matter, but I'm figuring these decisions are coming. I like the idea of always giving a complete vote to someone no matter what the value... But, I don't know, I'll make those decisions when I come to that bridge. As for now, like you said, it's just about creating good content. I don't like the whalechasers that's for sure.

They key is also focusing on your own followers, people who create etc. Everything else will become a background. Maybe the others will soon realize how things should be, for now we can be the change.

You'll know when you already have the slider. I have good friends here now too. If they make good content I will definitely upvote it. If not, they should know I am upvoting someone else.

good observation , my friend .
I never really thought of it in those terms - whales being friends upvoting each other for dancing coke can. I makes sense.
I have been here a tiny amount of time, but yes, with some people already, you support. It's logical as they grow, that support continues in their established networks.

I'm glad you pointed that out- it reduces some of my angst!

have an upvote!

You'll know the things around here as you go on. Here's some --> Curie tips for you. Curie is the one who is rewarding the new authors, like big time.

Time, skills, money: these things are resources. In a mercenary sense, we can trade these for each other. I get the paradox you say about caring and not-caring about money. Each path has different rewards on different timescales. Although, steem is one of the few places where, off in the distance, I think those two paths are actually the same.

Time, skills, money:

All writers who come here should know what it takes. It's really no quick earn, everyone has to start and should be confident enough of what they can offer.

"Before following me,
please check my previous posts."

This is the best statement I have read here on steemit in a long time! A follower that is not interested in what I write is a useless follower.

Awww thanks for that. 😊 Quality followers is the key!

I appreciate your opinion. I don't agree with it, but it's good to see the contrast.

I like your art!

It's a free program called Bitmoji so i can't really take credit for it. It's just a tool to make life easier.

Thanks, I'll check it out!

I was thinking people with larger amounts of Steem power could look at one day old posts that have say one dollar of posting reward. Like a halfway house between new and trending.

Curies' people with larger curating skills could also look at your one-day old posts.

Like a "possible gems - sort and upvote to support quality content". I think such mechanisms would be an excellent idea.

use Your power for the good. don't go to the dark side! LOL

lol thanks!

@diabolika, don't worry about what others are doing. There are many here in Steem who, like you, are rewarding great content with their upvotes. Each of us is able to define what it means to be here for ourselves, and it means nothing what others want not to be.

If you're pouring your heart into your writing and curating you will be rewarded with not only Steam, but gratitude.

I have upvoted your post and followed you. Good luck on Steem and enjoy your journey!

I am not worried. I am writing.

Thanks!
