Eat Less, Walk More
When I still had my corporate job in the city, I made sure that I still get to eat healthier food and swim regularly. That was just to remove the guilt of sitting all day in the cubicle farm. I do believe that this kind of guilt is healthy and necessary. It is the same guilt I feel whenever I eat ultra-processed food products. It was hard because my colleagues liked to have food delivered to the office which was mostly fast food. Being a weirdo to them, I would always go out on my own to eat and skip the pantry pleasantries. Even though I was working and sitting all day, I was still fit. I'm not saying that I am righteous or better than them, I just appreciate that I cannot easily be influenced anymore. It's probably because I don't really need people around me to be happy so it's not a big deal not to belong. I can make my own decisions and lifestyle choices. It is all about knowing what you really want. But it takes discipline and a proper mindset to really stick to what's better for your life.
When I quit my job to travel, I could go for hours without really eating. When you're hitchhiking, you don't really know when you could get a ride or if you would be staying in a middle of nowhere without food. I would bring some bread and fruits with me but that was just it. Sometimes I had nothing and it was fine. I already know how it is to be hungry and my travel just became a strong reminder. There's no drama if I couldn't eat for a day and I know that I could still walk for miles. Training yourself not to eat too much can really be good for your physical and mental health. People in the past had survived famine and war, and it turned out that they were healthier.
The problem in this unhappiness industry is that you are trained to get this temporary satisfaction by eating highly-processed food that will make you keep coming back for more. The happiness it can give is not going to last, it will only make you feel more hungry. But there seems to be a mind control ingredient added to this food.
I'm not a vegetarian, health guru, purist or something. I still let some animal corpse digest in my body from time to time. Just surprisingly, I can now get past the donut shop, sweets, and ice cream aisles without really feeling anything. No craving or mouth-watering happening. I learn when to stop eating too much. And I know what I don't want.
It's funny that I get all these lose weight, healthy living and exercise techniques articles in my Feedly by the so-called successful and highly productive people. It is really such an effort to get fit these days. It is a ridiculous idea for me that people pay gym memberships to get fit or lose weight. I only know one thing for sure, it's really just about what you eat. Sure, you can balance it with some natural exercise like walking and not be attached to some fancy gym equipment.
In reality, the whole convenience lifestyle only deprives you of good health and happiness. The convenient way to exercise. The convenient way to eat. The convenient way to work. The convenient way to get to a place. This convenient lifestyle only made people eat more and walk less. There is less natural physical exertion these days, like walking or spending more time outdoors. Don't wonder anymore why there are many unhappy people in this world right now.
First, you need to have a proper mindset. You can start by saying that you don't want to be mind controlled and brainwashed by the materialistic society anymore. Yes, it can be scary to go out on your own. The problem is that people don't want to be alone. Everyone is needy. People just mindlessly conform. Everyone's eating it so it must be good. Everyone's working 8 hours so it must be right. But once you set your mind to what's really good for you, there's no turning back. You are your choices.
I don't claim to have a perfect life at the moment but at least I feel more comfortable and convenient in a better way. And that is for finally living up to this alternative lifestyle I'm trying to create. This gives me a sense of purpose. And of course, there are downsides to living on your own terms. Since you can now intelligently see through the BS of people and this society, you will have fewer friends. You will carefully choose the people you will let into your little circle. You will remove toxic friendship and relationship. And you will value solitude more. To make up for the less human interaction, if not lacking, you will now find more enjoyment and purpose in other things such as passion, hobbies, nature, and callings.
I'm not saying that the 'eat less, walk more' lifestyle will make me prone to getting hit by a car or lightning at any time. That is just the inevitable reality of death. But I am sure healthier and happier now compared to when I was still in a relationship. Back in the day, I was more kind of influenced by the typical workaholic and convenient lifestyle of my partner. And I was scared to be alone. But I realized that if you are brave enough to be on your own, it will really give you great benefits. That is the kind of happiness that you need to awaken first in your life. If you are content on your own, you will attract happy people in your life.
School: You kids are all fat and lazy!!
School: (makes kids sit down for 6+ hours a day)
So true anyone would think it on purpose! 💯🐒

You are lucky you aren’t a crypto trader then (seriously), from that point of view😀. Would not recommend lol. See, I just don’t recall the school classes teaching ‘how to trade crypto 24/7’ while still getting regular excercise😂
looks forward to retiring😃
I don't know...maybe it's possible to do trading while you're on the beach. Commercialized beaches have wifi everywhere (Bali for ex.). Then you can walk around to pause lol. I probably should learn how to do day trading.
Well said it's so difficult to sustain from eating delicious food. Glad to know that you are controlling your eating habits very well. Fit person easily get the attraction of many people. Being fit mean you will be away from medicines, so just eat sufficient food to keep you healthy otherwise you have to eat medicines like food.
Yeah, I don't have to need medicines for years because I don't really get sick. Well, hopefully not.
Wise crafty ole sensei's can find flavor in a grain of rice!
I am a walker, too, and it was always my preferred mode of hitchhiking; sitting on the side of the road like most never really did it for me and sometimes I would walk out in the boonies all night.
Walking is nice if you're not under this oppressive humid heat, totally uncomfortable. I miss the cold actually.
No shortage of cold here!lol
Well, there is an empty furnished bedroom here with a door that locks if you ever need it! Plenty of ice cubes, too:D
This is very important!
Indeed! But I'm a true gentle man, too...
Back in the day on Young St. someone put stickers saying, 'it's safe here'...They were in little cubby holes where one could get some relief from the cold wind and snow:)
I believe you.
On the other hand...
What to do when Feliz eats all your french bread? Sigh...
Once he got a taste of Canadian bacon and cheddar croissants he'd never want to leave!
But I doubt it be as much fun as Moscow here as it's not as cold:D
I prefer poutine to Pelmeni.
It is wonderful to encounter a thinker. Food and exercise choices should be a no-brainer, but the opposite is true. If you don't realize that food is first and foremost fuel and body building blocks, you'll go after flavor instead of nutrition and fall into the fast-food, body damaging trap.
These days food scientists design food to "taste good." The use flavor enhancers that trick the mouth into thinking it is feeding the body with nutritious food when it is doing the opposite. I learned long ago that if I eat food that is good for me but doesn't taste particularly wonderful, soon my taste buds will shift and all of a sudden that bland food starts to taste yummy.
Part of the obesity epidemic is eating empty food. You eat lots of calories, but the body craves nutrition so you eat more junk food instead of nutritious food and the cycle repeats. Hunger never goes away. The vast majority of people never consider this.
When it comes to exercise, convenience will kill you.
Flavor enhancer is really the ultimate killer. There are other ways to put some flavor in food (natural herbs and spices) without having to go for the ultra-processed, so-called delicious food.
People get used to this convenient food and it's true, hunger never goes away.
I agree that the society got lazy and that we try to take the convenient way, if possible! I feel like everyone has to find their own balance though.. it might not be possible for everyone to go for a nice walk, since many people live in cities, but I agree that a walk in a park and making sure to eat healthy helps to live a happier life! Great post! :)
Good excuse.
Balance is hard, people tend to lean to the extreme side of things.
This is the most truth that anyone can speak. More and more people are in jobs where they are sitting for long periods of time and not exercising naturally (I.e. walking around). This is the biggest risk to the longevity of our species.
And consumerism doesn't help...
Spot on the culture today is very sad! At my work most people put on weight due to the canteen food. I have be told I'm about the only person to start and loose weight, 6kg in seven months. I eat loads but health stuff. Occasionally i'll give into the temptations but make sure I counteract it in some way. And I feel great for it haha 💯🐒
Wow really good for you! I feel it's ok to eat loads of healthy stuff since I walk a lot and also bike all the time!
Right on! its all about the balance that works for you! Not some paid diet that only works to make profit for someone! 💯🐒
Yeah well said..
How can I make people around me happy, if I am not happy myself...
So best thing that I can do for my loved ones is be a happy person myself.
True that!
Agree on just about every point in this post... Eating healthy, and in moderation, is its own reward. Better health, better cognition, and a fatter wallet...
You are hysterical!
I agree with the fatter wallet!
