Teaching according to Oyekan (1994) is an-all purpose profession engaged in human resource development for individual and economic growth.

Teachers are the builders of a nation, there is no society that can survive without them, and thus teachers are the platform on which any development is based. Therefore teachers are key strategists to accomplish the policy thrust and objectives of education for moulding our youths and adults for national development. A would-be-teacher is a teacher in training.

The present sorry state of education in Nigeria has been attributed to the government's attitudes to teachers. Teachers have not been accorded the respect and recognition they deserve in the society. Thus, many brilliant students who would have loved to be teachers refuse to study education. Also, many who have been in the profession left as a result of humiliating welfare package and job dissatisfaction. It behoves the government to see this as a challenge and quickly put up measures to develop the teaching profession in order to rescue our dying education. The number of applicants that subscribe to education courses reduces on daily basis because nobody wants to be in a profession whose practitioners are not proud of.

It is therefore imperative to give kudos to the present would-be-teachers in our schools; we must therefore put up strategies to build up their ego in order to enhance their commitment and sustain their passion.
