The mini-weeding before the weeding (come with me)

in #story9 years ago (edited)

Earlier on I was thinking of what to write, different things came to my mind but nothing really stayed through, latter I made my decisions to write on the parental consents I attended today though most people call it "introduction"

It was really glorious I must say, been the first of it kind I witnessed, though it was the second for the family, my family so to say.

I almost fell for the word "first of all...introduction"trap. However, lemme go straight to the detailed details, making it brief as I can.

Those who know or are from Yoruba land will relate with the things below...

In Yoruba culture, the parental consents (introduction) is held so that both families (the wife to be and the families of the husband to be)both families can meet officially, which I witnessed today between my family and the husband to be family.

Lemme go to details, one of the family friend moderated the programme and you know, the introduction is not only between the two families alone but also some close family friends of the bride and groom to be also were present.

The MC commenced the ceremony with any opening prayer which was said for like 2mins,after that we sang and dance, dance and sang,it was a mini weeding kind of I must say. Lemme put this before the parental consents, my sister already told our parent of the other family's proposed visit. Back to the matter, after the singing and dancing, the main reason of which the families were gathered was made known that's the reason of our gathering was made known to the guest before the weeding proper.

After that, some bible verses were read(psalm 150),things went one, also the affirmation of the wife to be and the husband to be were made known, how they both met each other and their journey so far.

The husband to be and his family were asked to state there intention of there son getting married to my sister, which he clearly stated by firstly lying down to greet we the in law and the people sited according to Yoruba culture and after that he introduced himself, where he came from, his work type...shortly after that the MC but lemme call him "moderator" asked my sister some few question:

•Do you know this man?

•Are you sure you want to marry this man?

After those questions, some rites were performed by the husband to be,that is he brought in some gift items (fruits, honey, wine, and so on,) this things are significant to the Yoruba culture.

Shortly after that, word of wisdom from the wise wasn't left out, during this period some people said some things that really got me. The first person that talked happened to be the Director of Education in Osun State,a woman, she said "the will of God can come from anywhere, not necessarily from the church someone attend,so far it's Gods will and you are sure it's. The second person that talked happened to be a woman also, a doctor this time, she said "when I and my husband married each other there was nothing like blood test unlike this day that you have to know your genotype before you get married and that if there was anything called blood test that time, our blood could have been tested but that can't predict the future" and the last person happened to be a man this time a prof, he said"the love of God his great, forgiving, supernatural, it's indescribable, infinite and eternal, the love from men is only meant for this world, only for this world". I think if I interpret what he said, to u think he was trying to say we all are on the road of love as a passage and that one day will come that everything will come to an end, only love from God is eternal.

The fatherly and the motherly prayers were said and immediately after that the rest of the day was spent mingling and getting to know other family members present, during this period good food(amala and egusi) yam floor and melon soup with coooold drinks were been served just to welcome the guests.

It was really fun I must say.
