Let’s Take a Peek at Today’s Haul.

Today’s order included seven coins and four capsules. Tonight though, I’m only going to show you the “nerd coins” 🤓💰

Nerd Coin One: 2018 Stormtrooper

Raise you hand if Star Wars was the first movie you ever saw in a theater. 🙋🏻‍♀️ As a kiddo I had the action figures, the books, a Millennium Falcon, forget Ken - my Barbies dated Luke and Han, I even dressed as Princess Leia (buns and all) for Halloween in 1979; so of course I am going to pick up a Star Wars coin(or two or three or maybe more 😬) along the way.

This 1oz Silver Stormtrooper was issued in 2018 by the wee island nation of Niue. Only 250,000 of these coins were produced by the New Zealand Mint. The coin’s obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Nerd Coin Two: 2017 Darth Vader

Do we sense a theme here? Darth Vader is the ultimate bad ass villain (well, until the prequels when George Lucas let him scream “Noooooooo” like an angry toddler next to a river of lava.... 😑 But I digress.) The same year I dressed as Princess Leia for Halloween, fellow kindergartener Chad Barns dressed as Vader and chased me around our classroom. Only a real baddy could bring out the dark side in a five year old. 😉

This coin (like the trooper) was issued by Nuie, minted in New Zealand, features the Queen on the obverse and was limited to 250,000 mintage.

Nerd Coin Three: 2017 Spiderman

My spidy senses were tingling when I first saw this coin. Actually that is a total lie. My husband LOVES this coin. So, I bought it to share. (Notice I said share, because was I really going to give it to him? 😂 No way!)

This coin is the first of three issued so far in a Marvel Superhero series. It was produced by the Perth Mint for Tuvalu. This coin is one troy oz. of .9999 silver and only 50,000 exist. The obverse also features Queen Elizabeth II sporting some highly detailed curls.

As an aside, all of these coins with Queen Elizabeth... has anyone ever just gone and compared all of the Elizabeths? On some coins she looks pretty haggard. I really do like her “do” on this Tuvalu coin.

This Next Bit of Silver isn’t Even a Coin!

Nerd Coin Round Shield? Four: Icons of Route 66 (Illinois Gemini Giant)

This crazy silver thing! Look at the shape. The metal and the capsule are both shaped like interstate signs. This is the first in a series of eight shields celebrating America’s Mother Road, Route 66. One shield will be issued for each state Route 66 crosses.

This bit of silver has been issued for the Illinois portion of the road and features the Gemini Giant. I had never heard of this kitschy fellow before purchasing this shield. Want to see a real life photo? Click Here. If you google street view this thing, you will see it is in a parking lot, but right next to some person’s house! Can you imagine looking out your window and seeing the Gemini Giant every day?

According to the hive mind at Wikipedia:

The Gemini Giant is a landmark statue on U.S. Route 66 at the Eastern entrance to Wilmington, Will County, Illinois. Standing outside the Launching Pad Drive-In restaurant, the 30 foot tall statue is one of many giant "Muffler Man" advertising props found throughout the USA in the Sixties. The Gemini Giant is named after the Gemini space program and holds a silver "rocket ship" in his hands, while sporting an astronaut's space helmet that resembles a welding mask.

As strange as this coin round shield is, I really like it. The shape is unique, the premium was low, it is still 1 oz. of .999 silver and the mintage (though unspecified) is meant to be low. I am also curious to see the next seven designs.

All in all this was an excellent salve for my stackitus, and I still have three more coins to show you another day!
