The Hearts of San Francisco

Inspired by the Tony Bennett song, I Left My Heart In San Francisco, 131 heart sculptures line the streets of San Francisco. Each heart is decorated by a famous artist. At year’s end they are auctioned to raise money for San Francisco General Hospital. This initiative is the hospital’s largest fundraiser.
Started in 2004, the inaugural year of the campaign raised nearly $3 million for the hospital. In 2006 the Heroes and Hearts luncheon was added as a complimentary fundraiser for the hospital. At this luncheon the new hearts are revealed for the first time and locals heroes are honored for their contributions to the community.

”Open Heart” was hand-painted by local artist Patrick Dintino, a San Francisco native whose mother’s life was saved more than a decade ago by open heart surgery. “Open Heart represents the larger idea of love and understanding self-concept—of opening our hearts and seeing what’s inside, what makes us tick,” said Dintino. “It symbolizes the openness of our city’s heart, as well as the idea of falling in love with and leaving your heart in San Francisco. Nice Heart....@dfinney I remember going over to Alcatraz many Years Ago and having them shut the Cell Door on me in Solitary Confinement in Cell Block "D".........It was pretty Spooky once the Door is Shut and there was no light............
Alcatraz is great. I’ve always wanted to take a night tour, but haven’t yet.... ☺️
I left my heart in SF, @dfinney! I went to a private Catholic University and lived there for over 10 years. It is so heart warming to see a post from you about a city that has many memories for me!
10 years! Lucky gal. It is one of my favorite spots to visit. I’ve had many fun days in SF and I Always feel so healthy after walking all over the city. One of America’s most iconic places! 🦀🌉🌁

@ronaldoavino, San Francisco is a wonderful city. One of my favorite in the whole country. Definitely worth a visit. Beautiful architecture. Great food, art, history, wonderful shopping, marine life. You could spend weeks still not see everything this city has to offer.
