Meike 35mm f1.7 Lens Unboxing - For my Photography
I just received my package from Lazada for the lens I purchased a few days ago. It's a manual lens for my Fujifilm mirrorless camera.
It's called the Meike 35mm f1.7 lens. (I also had a UV filter in the package to help protect the images and lens' glass)
Unboxing
The package came in this dark blue plastic bag Lazada uses (sometimes it's pink). They weren't in a box. I was expecting for them to be put in a cardboard box since they're all glass and stuff, for added protection. But I can't complain since the shipping was free.
Opening the plastic would reveal that the 2 products I ordered were nicely wrapped in layers of bubble wrap. Which is good for protection like bumps, but not if my packaged was squashed by other big boxes (which could never be the case because the delivery guy arrived in a motor bike and the products he was carrying was in a back pack).
The bubble wraps gave me a big of a hard time to get to these 2 boxes housing my lens and the filter:
The lens' box was very simple, neat packaging. White all over with prints discussing the product's specification and had the lens photo on it too. It had their brand name "Meike" on all 6 sides of the box.
Let's focus on the lens that I got first. Here's the box being unboxed!:
Once opened, it reveals some inclusions in the box:
- A message from the seller.
- A lens bag.
- Fiber cloth to wipe dirt of the lens.
- Warranty card.
- and silica gels to prevent moisture.
After removing another piece of cardboard that protects the lens by serving as padding, the lens decided to show itself still covered in one last piece of plastic (to protect it from getting scratches from the cardboard):
Finally, here is my Meike 35mm f1.7 lens out of its box in all its metallic prettiness.
Here's a closer look on it. From left to right: the mount cap, the lens, and the lens' front cap (which is also metal).
As you've noticed in the earlier photos, there was another box included in my package. Black and thinner than the len's box. It's for the UV filter.
A filter is something you mount on the front of the lens for a specific purpose. For this one, it blocks out UV light and additional glare from light sources, especially when shooting outdoors.
Another function of this filter is to help protect the lens' front glass from scratches and from possibly breaking if ever you drop the lens or the whole camera (lens mounted). Here's how it looks like when attached to the lens:
Meike on the Fuji
After all those unboxing and product introductions, I've decided to mount the lens onto my Fujifilm X-T20:
It looks pretty neat and honestly, I'm still adapting to it since it's smaller compared to the kit lenses that came with the X-T20 and the X-A3. However, this is a very cheap lens, it only cost me around 3,500php or roughly 70usd. Whereas my X-T20's kit lens could probably cost around 15-20 thousand pesos, or 300-400usd when bought standalone.
It looks really good on the X-T20. Had to use my phone to capture the last 2 images since I was too lazy to set up the X-A3 from sleeping in its camera bag.
Sample Shots
What good is a new lens if you're not gonna test it out? So, after I mounted it on the X-T20. I decided to took some shots of the XF 18-55mm Fujinon lens against my ultra wide Counter Strike mousepad as a background. It looked pretty neat!
I had to do manual focus since this Meike is a manual lens but I'm pretty much been using manual focus even on the Fujinon that has an AF (auto-focus) but it's a breeze since the Fujifilm has focus peaking that helps you see where the camera's being focused on by highlighting those areas.
The lens' combination of the 35mm focal length and it's fast 1.7 aperture helps in creating amazing bokeh on your photos background. It has a bit of a swirly feel on it which looks classy and cool!
That's it for this unboxing blog! The Meike lens was pretty much bang-for-the-buck when I purchased it, especially after receiving some discount from its original price. It's one good lens that everyone has been using (it's pretty famous in my photography groups) because it's cheap but the quality is not compromised by its price.
I will be testing it out more and I'll make sure to capture lots of photos with it so I can share it with you on my following blogs. Thanks for reading!
I always love seeing that camera with the leather cover on it! Very nice lens. Can’t wait to see what kind of photos you take with it.
Side note I’ve never thought about your guy's currency might be the first time i've seen php used. Learn something new every day :)
Thanks! It actually needs a different strap cause the strap's brown is lighter than the leather case and I kinda don't like it (I don't use the black Fujifilm strap cause it's too short).
I've already taken a number of photos with it, mostly of Zion. :D I need to practice more using manual focusing, pretty hard when the subject keeps running about.
It's Philippine Peso, (of Php); it's not really performing quite well versus foreign currencies. XD
Hi @deveerei if you get a chance, It would be cool to see how the lens performs for astrophotography. Looks like a pretty solid lens.
That's a great idea, I've thought of that earlier too. But the place I'm in may not be ideal for astros since it's in the middle of the city. Maybe around the 2nd week of May, we're set to go to the province, there's no light pollution there at all since that's in the mountains. The only problem will be if it's cloudy or not.
I bet the fast aperture will be much better than the kit lens I had which had the fastest aperture of 2.8. I'll try this out for night photography too when I get the chance.
My next target would be a Samyang 12mm 1.2 (Or sometimes called Rokinon), which will be a great cheap lens for astro and landscapes. But before that, I'll need to buy a flash and trigger combo (may cost around 120usd/6000php).
I've heard good things about the Samyang lenses, many people swear by them :)
I've seen amazing photos too.
Pahiram kame kuya!
Haha, sino to? @immarojas ba?
Baket papahiram mo? Go daw kayo Zambales, what andon?
Nope haha. :D Fiesta po, dun po probinsya ng lolo ko sa father's side.
nice photographs
