LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF

From the looks of things, it looks like we humans, chief inhabitants of this world, are hell bent on destroying it. Our current activities and future plans are capable of bringing the world as we know it to an end. Terrorism is of course a general problem. Countries now invest huge capital in creating weapons of mass destruction. Weapons capable of splitting the earth into two to say the least. There are other issues too that may not look so threatening but pose great danger to humanity. There's the issue of global warming, increasing crime rate worldwide, ethnic and religious conflicts and so on.

When we examine the happenings around the world, we begin to doubt in our hearts if there is a remedy to these problems. We begin to think in our hearts whether it is too late to start tackling these issues.

In my own opinion, IT IS NOT TOO LATE

The simple remedy to our predicament is the same tenet that almost all the religions of the world are based upon.

Our problems started when we started relegating love to the sideline. We only show love for the camera. For the fame and popularity. We have lost the values that make us human. Love has become an option for most of us, we choose when to love and when not to.

Even though most of us claim to be religious, we do not act based on the principles of our religion. We lie, we cheat, we kill "unjustly", we steal public funds, we enslave fellow humans, and commit so many other "crimes against humanity". In fact, many people actually commit these crimes in the name of religion.

We need to start thinking differently. We need to start thinking of all other humans on earth as our neighbours irrespective of race, skin color, nationality, religious affiliations and other individual differences. We are all neighbours on earth.

With this realization, I believe we will realize that individual actions affect everyone. Our destinies are tied. We need to work towards becoming better persons. We need to know that those wars we fight, we fight against our neighbours. The people we kill are our neighbours. Those public funds that we embezzled are supposed to be used to improve the standard of living of both ourselves and our neighbours. The bombs we detonate are killing our neighbours. The people we rob are also our neighbours.

Now, it can be argued that even if this message convinces a few individuals to change the world would still have a deficit of "good people". Yes, the argument would be right. But then change and revolution starts from just a few individuals who become advocates for a cause. If the few individuals who would be touched by this can spread the change just like I'm doing, then the number of "good people" would constantly increase. Then we will all have contributed our quota in fighting the battle for change, the battle to make good prevail over evil.

You can also be an advocate of change. Love your neighbour as yourself and try to get your neighbour to do the same.
