I remember that in 1998 I saw the original film (Part 1), very good indeed; in which in the future military service is mandatory to become a citizen with many rights, such as entering politics. It was centered in the end of the preparatory one of a group of young people, with John Rico (Casper Van Dien) and his fiancèe Carmen Ibañez (Denise Richards), who separates of him to be in a pilot of the Air Force of the Federation. For his part, Rico enters the Infantry, the lowest rank in the military hierarchy due to his low academic capacity.
Rico trains hard and is called to the front to wage great battles on the planet Klendathu, after being destroyed the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, causing millions of deaths. In the battle of Klendathu more than 100,000 soldiers die in an hour and several transport ships are lost. Then, the Federation assumes the tactic of weakening the enemy by attacking each planet it has colonized. In such a way Rico is assigned to the squadron of Los recios de Rasczak to fight the insects on Planet P; but, when arriving at the place they discover that all the inhabitants are dead except their commander, who informs that the insects suck the brains of the officials to know more to the humans; since they are governed by a superior insect, which resembles a giant brain.
After fighting in the fort in which his commander dies, the survivors Rico and Ace return to Rodger Young where the intelligence Colonel and Rico's best friend in high school, Carl Jenkins (Neil Patrick Harris), promotes him to lieutenant to start the search for the "brain insect". Rico's team is assigned to Rodger Young on Planet P, which is destroyed. Carmen Ibáñez and Zander Barcalow (Patrick Muldoon) manage to escape for very little in a rescue ship and fall into an insect cave in which Zander is devoured by the "brain insect". Rico organizes a rescue to save Carmen and after that, when they come to the surface they receive the news that the "brain insect" has been captured and sent to Earth to be analyzed and find a way to defeat the other insects... I hope the second part is better than the previous one, with more special effects...
