San Gabriel Mountain Adventures - Little Jimmy Trail Camp
We headed up highway 2 into the San Gabriel mountains for a 2 day trip to the Little Jimmy Campground. We started our hike at the Islip Saddle trailhead and headed up the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) to the campground. We found a great place to setup the tent with a great view out over the high desert, and then went and got some water from Little Jimmy Springs. From the springs we headed up to Windy gap and then took the trail up to the top of Mt. Islip. We hung out on the summit and enjoyed the most amazing sunset I think I have ever seen!! As it got dark we made the hike back down to the campground for the night.

The next morning we headed back up to Windy Gap, but this time we took the PCT up to Throop peak. The summit has a really great full 360 degree view. Then we headed back along the PCT over to Mt. Hawkins and headed out Hawkins Ridge to Middle Hawkins and South Hawkins. Four peaks in one day! After hitting all the peaks we headed back to the camp and packed up our gear and hiked back down the PCT to the Islip Saddle trailhead wrapping up another fun adventure in the beautiful San Gabriel high country!

Awesome sunset pics.. love that tree at the top of Throop peak
Thanks Dave! Throop peak was actually my favorite of the peaks, I really wish I had taken a few more photos from the summit. I was going though the photos and was like "I only got 2 shots from Throop? WTF!?" lol.
Lol. I hate it when I do that.
Wowwwwwww...those are some Epic, Epic photos there @derekrichardson...this one doesn't even look real, it is as if you are in some kind of a dream world...well done!
Thank you @lyndsaybowes! Hiking up to Mt. Islip did feel a bit surreal as the sun was setting through the clouds going in and out. Everything was glowing and it was totally still, with no wind at all. And then getting to the summit just in time for the incredible sunset... it was perfect.
Impeccable description. Really adds dimension to the experience.
I need to get my ass out there and hike that, it looks amazing!
What great views from different look out points!
Five peaks in 2 days!! So many nice views. It's kinda fun to climb multiple peaks in the same area, on each peak you get different views of all the other peaks. It's cool to look at the view of the other peaks and think "next I'm going all the way over to that peak" or "wow, was I really just standing on that peak way over there".
Yet another great hike of yours @derekrichardson! I especially like the view from South Hawkins. The dead trees, trails, river and mountains form a great composition.

The @Climbing-Trail is an account dedicated to give climbing, alpinism and hiking a plattform here on Steemit. It is curated by @HaTo.
Ya, that view south from South Hawkins lines up just right to give a nice view over the lower San Gabriel river. And the barren open landscape provides great views in every direction. Thank you for the upvote and resteem! I love what you are doing here to support hikers and climbers, keep up the great work!
Thanks. I give my best! :-)

Wow. Looks like you got to see some amazing views on your trip. Although what's with all the dead trees? Is that natural or logging?
A bark beetle infestation in the pine trees killed a ton of trees, creating lots of dead wood, and then the Curve Fire of 2002 came through. And fueled by the abundance of dead wood, also destroyed many more trees.
It is kinda sad, but there are a bunch of new small trees growing back.
And having less trees at the moment does make for some really nice wide open views! So it's not all bad.
Oh that's interesting. Thanks for getting back to me about it.
