Who here has not heard of absinthe? The alcoholic beverage in Europe and other parts of the world that makes you hallucinate - drunk. Well the main ingredient in it is wormwood. Wormwood is also a main ingredient in LSD. The thujone in the plant is the main culprit.

I find it to be like a strong Advil when eaten right out of the garden. It is a bitter and the main compounds that make it bitter have strong anti-inflammatory properties. The herb is also quite powerful, it helps with depression, spasms which has been used in conjunction with epilepsy.

The bitters also help with digestion and bile production, which in turn ultimately aids the entire digestive tract. I use it when I am cleansing my gut, it helps not only with the riddance of build up, it also is one of the most powerful natural parasite removal remedies out there, hence the name. This makes it a great insecticide as well! A lot like Yarrow, yet more powerful, Wormwood has a superior bitter effect on the body, yet will not harm me if I keep my dosage low and eat it right from the plant rather than refining it.

Another great effect of this herb is that it has anti-infection properties. Great for open wounds and cuts to keep the septic infection out. If I get injured, this is my go to if it is around.

Wormwood is a VERY potent herb. It should not be used in excess of 3-4 weeks periods due to the thujone content. I use it sparingly throughout the year if needed, and always have a little to add to a tea for pain or if I feel extra gloomy. This is a great herb to use as an add-in to teas and tonics. I stay away from regular prolonged use.

Again thanks for dropping in. Remember that this is not medical advice nor do I prescribe anything to anyone. This post is for educational purposes only. Your body is your temple, treat it well. Have a great garden!

Excellent information! I started growing wormwood last year, but I haven’t taken the time to research it much yet.

I dig the Sotall graphic at the bottom of your post. I dig @sotall!

here to help each other out! Plus they do a daily raffle lol.

Very nice wormwood grows into a large perennial bush reaching over six feet tall.
We have it planted through out our permaculture farm.
Thanks for posting.

I have a huge wormwood plant in my New Herb garden. I've only used it as a bug repellent in the cedar closet, and dehydrated and fed in winter as a internal worm preventative for the layers.
