Using Steemit to Make Money on the Homestead
Homesteaders, I have been reading and watching videos on how to increase homestead funding using Steemit as, not only an extra form of income, but as a base of income. We all know how hard it is to make money owning a small farm. I grit my teeth every time someone says they went grocery shopping at WalMart. I just want to ask them if they love taking a pay cut. yet, I just nod my head and refrain from getting all worked up about it (unless I know them).
We struggle to make ends meet and try to do the right thing. Keep our family well fed and pray that one day our crops and livestock will be in demand. At least I do. Then I say to myself - "... well I know no matter what happens, we will be ok..." Well I am sick of just getting by. I was about to take a contract to start traveling again, then decided to give this a shoht since I knew someone that was actually making money here.
I have realized that making money on steemit is not to difficult. I take an approach that others have said works really well for them, but I hate asking for any thing, a trait smashed into my head from my father., so I try to produce content that is quality based.
The upvote is the way we all make money here. Of course page views and comments are built into the algorithm as well, but the heaviest weight is on the upvote. So I have picked a few whom I upvote regularly for making money, because if your timing is right you can make moeny by upvoting others, especially if they are getting lots of upvotes, , its called curation.
You can also make money by upvoting others who are getting started, it is like investing. Randomly upvoting here and there is ok if it is done in moderation, but to make money on Steemit, you need to pick a few to upvote regular, resteem their content and get people interested. By doing this, it just comes back to you, you will find you have regular upvoters and return that favor to them. Upvote their comments, visit their content and resteem. Give back what you get and you will get more. It's God's way.
I recently ran out of power, I was wanting to upvote everyone all the time, but I was told it is better to upvote everyone, within your circle consistently but dont deplete your power doing so. I was given a website to track my money, my voting power and upcoming payouts - http://steem.supply/. These people will understand if you do not upvote every post, but keep steady with giving the love back that you receive. If you are consistently giving upvotes to someone who does not return the favor try another, see who will give back. Giving is one of the beautiful things about homesteaders, we are generally very giving people. I even have a hard time accepting money for eggs from people I know. The other thing you can do is adjust your vote's worth, give what you can, as you gain in worth, give more, I guarantee it will come back+.
I will be doing a post soon on timing, because you can time your upvote to mean more or less.
Well thanks for letting me babble on about what I am learning.
As always, have a great garden!
You're right about upvoting from a circle of like minded friends who get good money from their posts. I use a service called Steem Voter to make sure I vote for the new posts of certain people every time. With it, you can also set the % of the vote so you don't deplete your power.
That being said, I cant help upvoting new accounts when I see them. I can remember the joy of getting a vote when I was starting out, and the greater joy of that first payout, enen though only points of a dollar...
i will be sure to check out the steem voter and thanks for checking out my content! followed! ill return the love.
Its the easiest one I've found. I get small but consistent incomes from @steembasicincome and delegation to @minnowbooster (I delegated 150 SP and from that receive about 0.12 SBD a day)
So what is the voting percentage? What does that do?
It means that you dont have to vote at 100%. You can vote at, say, 50% and make twice as many upvotes.
You might have noticed on Steemdb or similar that when you are upvoted by someone thete is a % next to the vote. Thats how they do it.
thanks! It's like learning a new language lol.
That it is. Im only learning. Im trying to set up a base income of 1SBD a day as well as post rewards. Doesnt sound like much, but itsbetter than hanging around waiting to be noticed by whales
Yea thats where I am at too, get a trickle in and eventually it will grow. Though a whale or two would n't hurt :)
Ive been picked up by whales a couple of times. Its nice to get the boost. Last one that happened kikcked the USD value ti $460 i was stoked. Then the excange rate tanked and the suckerfish started withdrawing their votes, as they do, and I ended up with $140. Thats still nothing to be sneezed at, but it was a bit of a downer watching the value drop every day
Got to get away from the value of it. If the people keep coming, eventually it will be valuable, long haul crap. I'm in it for the long of it. No point in stressing on it. It will be fine in the long, and I will be here.
I know the feeling of being sick of just getting by. We’re about as low maintenance as a family can be, but after being a stay-at-home/homeschool mom for the last 20 years, living on one income, I’m ready for making ends meet to be a little easier. Good luck to you!
Well @powellx5 you are a seasoned veteran! Thanks for that. followed! SW MO? Where, I'm over NE of Harrison. Lots of good folks here!
Joplin. I think half of the people I follow are within a couple hours of me! 😀 Have you heard about the April meetup in Springfield?
no... I'll ask around here and see but heck I will go! Jeeze Joplin you all are bout 2 hours not bad! I am trying to get some area homesteaders to get together a sort of co-op for local restaurant selling.
Ya don't have to ask around too far. 😁 Here's a link to @sumatranate's 'save the date' post.
A co-op soumds awesome, but I'm still in town, won't be making our move for about 2 1/2 ot 3 years. My garden is big enough to grow a lot of what we need though! But as soon as we get it together out on a piece of land, I'm in!
Well the reason I am doing the co-op is because a lot of us can and keep, but the extra can be sold! Instead of waste, greens are the best seller... I wish I could grow a mile of greens but I don't have the money to go buy a thousand bales of straw to plant in... I am on top of a ridge and the soil is, well, rock and clay.
Thats it, theres only so minimal one can make ones lifestyle and impact and still participate in society.
I saw that you picked 100% steem power payout and wanted to let you know that, since the $1 SBD peg is broken, you will make more money doing 50/50 payout.
For example, if a post had an author payout of $2, on 100% SP, you will get $2 worth of steem or about 0.6 steem at current value. On 50/50 payout, you get 1 SBD and $1 worth of steem(about 0.3). 1 SBD is currently worth 1.06 steem. So, on 50/50 you will get the equivalent of 1.36 steem, instead of 0.6, for the same payout.
If you are trying to build your steem power, you can exchange SBD for steem in the currency market and then power that up.
So how do you switch back to 50/50? I did the power up, but the power down does not give me that option
I don't think you can change the payout option once you make the post. But, on future posts select the 50/50 reward option.
You are awesome! thanks for he heads up! I am figuring this whole thing out as-I-go. I read that if you do the 100% you are filling up your steem power faster, but I see that you are correct my friend I need to be more on top of this!
No problem. There is a lot to figure out. I'm fairly new here and did 100% on a few posts before figuring this out.
It sounds like you're doing a good job making sense of things around here! I am glad you're babbling while you're learning! <3 I try not to get too much into it, because it can overtake my life, and I don't really want that. I am trying to just be happy with whatever comes. Though I do get down about it sometimes. It was a little easier last year to make some pretty good money, I am sure it goes up and down with how easy or quick it happens. I wish I didn't take a 5 month hiatus, but, there we have it, it happened and here I am. haha. I am a little glad I did because, as I said, it's easy to let it take over and become obsessed with what happens on Steemit.
Another great website to track some stuff is http://steemworld.org/@insertyourusernamehere I will check out the one you mentioned!
Edit to add: Looking at Steem Supply, it seems as though Steemworld is more accurate on vote worth, unless I am looking at it incorrectly.
I'll try it! I have been using steem supply, I will check it out. Followed! I don't have the time for it to take my life over, my boys are moved out and my daughter is left, so all the work is on my back. I am so never done with anything, and this is more of a break during the day or rain work :). I enjoy writing and I enjoy gardening, and my animals, so this is a great way to talk about things with people that can understand and I don't have to spend hours on the phone when I don't have the time. :) Happy to be here! I'd upvote your comment but voting power is low...
