Paths to Freedom - Laughter: The Best Medicine?
One path to freedom that I haven’t talked about is laughter. It seems like an odd thing to believe in, but I feel that many find some version of perceived truth through comedy. Unfortunately for us anarchists, we aren't well represented among comedians and what we generally talk about isn't exactly "casual entertainment".
Think about it. To many in the world, our favorite topics are pretty boring. Economics, philosophy, history...gee, let’s just rally the masses! Even though some will choose to bypass us, there is another way to still get through to them.

George Carlin is a great example of someone who could “wake the masses” with a couple really good jokes. He had the ability to get the most ardent flag wavers to question their patriotism while simultaneously laughing tears of joy. The value of this can’t be overstated.
Look at this video on Youtube: 400k views, 4k likes, and 76 dislikes. It’s held the test of time and I still chuckle a bit watching it. The fact that so many others have tells you that he was on to something.
The State is fundamentally ridiculous. We know how ridiculous it is. Laughter can be the trail of breadcrumbs that leads statists down the path of curiosity.
As I’ve mentioned before, there are many paths to a free society. It is up to us to maximize each one to their full potential in order to help get us there.
How do we get through to those that won’t listen? We make them laugh.

To be fair, though, Carlin was pretty left leaning, like a lot of comedians. He had his funny stuff, and later on he toured purely due to the fact that he was in serious tax debt, so that may have inspired his more anti-government material later on.
Yes, more flies with sugar...
While laughter may be a path to freedom, more realistic ventures, such as jury nullification have the potential to bring about a freedom unlike this country has ever seen.
Perhaps. I agree jury nullification has value in our movement. However, I don't think we will achieve a free society by dismantling the State through their playbook alone. They can write laws faster than we can stand against them.
I am not discouraging anyone from pursuing this tactic, in the same way I wouldn't bash Ian from FTL for running for governor of NH. However, personally, I see other paths to freedom that I prefer a lot more. I see us building an alternate system that exists in tandem with the State, only to prove itself superior to the masses in due course. I see this being accomplished by taking each "service" the State provides and doing it better voluntarily.
I could be wrong, but that's the whole point, we need to employ a lot of different tactics to the best of our abilities in order to maximize the potential of our movement.
fantastic. Bring George Carlin back I say!
Laughter is the best medicine. I remember a movie where they put all those who are dying and sick in a room for those and let them watch comedy movies and result is amazing. That movie is actually based on a true to life story.
The state is ridiculous. There is a lot of comfort in the jokes of George Carlin. Are you a fan of Bill Hicks?
I'm a bit ashamed, as I know who Bill Hicks is, but I've never gotten into him. Carlin was the only one I can recall that hit me in the anarcho-feels with his jokes. Thanks for bringing Hicks up as I think I'll have some Youtube clips to watch today! :)
