Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest week32: What I wasn't taught in school

in Steem4Nigeria6 months ago

Warm greeting to everybody,my name is de prince and am here to present my view on the issue at stake. School taught me what they want me to know but life taught me what I need to know. Below is my entry 👇.

Are you of the opinion that school can teach you everything or you've got a contrary opinion?

In trying to justify my take on this issue,I must first commend the initiators of schooling, why because school is the building block of every human. At least in school, you will be taught the basic things you need in life such as learning how to read, write and comprehend things but I am not of the opinion that school teaches everything.

School only teaches us the basic things but reality (life) teaches everything we need to know. Now let me give this funny illustration,in school back then, there was this maths equation that we are normally asked to find x or y . E.g if y is =10 and 7x is 22 find y, to me it's just a waste of time. In life you are not asked this type of questions, you get to learn it the hard way. Life experiences teaches us everything not school.

What was that situation you found yourself that your years of learning in school could not fix?

It was after I graduated from school I knew that we don't get to learn everything in school. I had this little experience when I was searching for a job,you with so much confidence in me as a fresh graduate,I thought once I enter into any establishment I will be employed considering my qualifications but little did I know that it was not so in reality.

I was supposed to work with an establishment but I was disqualified on the basis of not having experience in the job,wow I was like they didn't teach me that in school and it was not included in my certificate. I had to go back to being an apprentice in other to gather experience I didn't get from school. School only teach you what they want you to know and they work with a school calendar and curriculum but in reality you keep learning till it's time to go see the Lord..

How did you end fixing the issue?

In trying to settle an issue, you must first know what caused the issue. In my own case,I was disqualified because I didn't have the much required experience. What I did was to go back to being an apprentice in other to gain the experience.. This days,I don't go for theories I go for practical because life is practical.

In your opinion, how should learning in school be viewed and handled?

To me, learning in school should be more practical than theory, this because life is practical. Make these children understand that there's life outside school and it's entirely a different world and they need to be equipped well before they go out to face it. At least once they are well equipped from school it will give them an edge to survive out there. I can never discredit the importance of school, never but I am more concerned about reality. What we are taught in school is far behind what life teaches us. So let's make it more practical than theory.

Please,I am not discrediting schooling but,let our children know the truth so that they are well equipped to face what ever the are faced with.

  Thanks for reading through 🙏

I am inviting @unyime23 @mesola & @hasnahena To participate

It's insightful how you differentiate between what school teaches and what life teaches, emphasizing the importance of practical learning. Your experience highlights the gap between academic qualifications and real-world skills, which is a common challenge many face. Encouraging a more practical approach to education can better prepare students for the complexities of life beyond the classroom.
