We Can Learn a Lot from Cats! (Vol 1)

I have learned a lot from watching my cats, over the years.

Here's one of my favorite "former" cats — "Orange" — teaching me that it is OK to just completely relax and zone out. Orange was typically known around the house as "Zen Kitteh" because he was so chill, all the time.

Most people have so much going on, and so much "to do" that they often forget how to just disconnect and let their brains go slack. And yet? That is really a very healthy thing to do!

Some may see "relaxation" as a waste of time, or a waste of life, or "failure to be productive"... but the thing about it is... when we relax regularly, we are actually MORE productive the rest of the time.

So... remember to relax! EVEN if you think you have a very full plate, with all the demands of your life. It's not going to kill you — or cause you to fall further behind — to take ten minutes, here and there!

Originally posted this from the Steepshot.io front end, when it appeared that Steemit proper was "offline" and had been for about 90 minutes. The post seemed to "go" but has since vanished to locations unknown. Wonder what THAT is about? HF.20? Hmmm... why is communication always so lacking around here?

Anyway, when was the last time YOU took time out to simply "disconnect" and relax? Do you fall into the trap of "not having time" to relax? Leave a comment!

I think communication is so lacking around here because a lot of people are kind of disconnected and chilling out. LOL. ;)

I'm thinking that the lack of communication around here perhaps is an illustration of one of the "Achilles Heels" of a decentralized structure...

I love cats, they do teach us a lot in life, like how to wake up slowly by stretching and chilling instead of jumping out of bed ready to go. After all, we are called human"beings" and not human"doings" for a reason! we seem to have forgotten that by just "being" sometimes, the brightest ideas and inspirations follow! thanks for the reminder! lovely little story and beautiful photo of the cat.

Well, you said a LOT there, @claudiaz! I am all about BEing, rather than DOing... and sort of have made it my life's challenge to find ways to make it in a world that almost reveres "doing" and considers "being" a form of slacking off.

you are right it's not easy, but unless we try we miss many pleasure in life, so I keep trying,! even if they think WE are crazy, lol

Mine always kept trying get me to go easier on life. Endless jumping into my lap late at night trying to remind me to take break from what eve project I was involved in that consumed to much of my life.

Quite a few meows a day to remind me lets go play with some cat toys in another room away from that computer. Lots of love and really he never ask for much. They are such wonderful creatures.

They are rather wonderful creatures. I was totally a dog person when I was little... but that has changed; especially after my cat Max in my college days.

Cats seem to "let us be" when they are busy, but also come and insist that we stop and pay attention to them right about the time when we start feeling "overcooked" with whatever we're working on.

As a cat lover i really liked this post we really must learn something from cats, and by the way relaxing is always useful for body and mind.

I was much more of a "dog person" as a kid; in my late teens I became more of a cat person.

Relaxation is just one; cats also have exceptional focus and patience — when it matters — but could care less about "little unimportant stuff." They are independent and loyal at the same time; they have amazing resilience... there are lots of things.

Thanks for stopping by!

I see posts where people talk about meditation and to concentrate and focus on one thing................never really talking about to focus on what. I think the kind of meditation people talk about is no meditation at all.

My second cat was a big male with a completely black coat. He was not lazy by any means and was infact so agile (given his size) that it was a bit disconcerting.

During summers he would lie on the cold ground in our balcony and dozed of for hours. I kid you not, I have never seen a better description of meditation than him lazing off.

Interesting... my biggest cat (about 18lbs of no-fat) was also my most agile. Made the jump from the floor to the top of the fridge with ease; even saw him jump to the top of the overhead cabinets in the kitchen. I guess the old truism that a cat can jump six times its body length is probably true...

There is certain truth to that.

My cat was bit of loner. Never really was fond of being touched by anyone. He was around 10 when he died and by the end he wouldn't even like anybody even approaching his space.............. well dislike is a strong word but he preferred to be alone. Reminded of monks actually.

All of this was so different from how his children turned out. Rowdiest and the most playful bunch of kittens that I have ever seen :-)

You lost me at: "learn a lot from cats" 8-).

When I was in my 20's, I would probably have rolled my eyes at such a statement; some 15 cats later I've (mostly!) learned the many ways most humans tend to run around in circles getting worked up over the most insignificant of things...

I'm more of a dog person myself, but that lesson is taught by both species, apparently 8-).
