So Steemit Got a Facelift... including a DELETE Option...
It's hard to miss, but Steemit looks a little different today.
You can read more about the updates and changes on the most recent @steemitblog posts:
Performance and Scalability Updates (Pretty technical) from yesterday and
Steemit.com Updates: Design and Security from earlier today.
A Few Personal Observations
Personally, I like the new "look." It's a little more modern looking and a little less "early 2000s message board," which would leave a better impression when marketing the site to others. Just my opinion, of course.
I like that there's more "white space," and the layout makes things easier to read.. which I think will translate well for those using mobile devices... I'm almost always on my desktop with a large monitor, but I like it there, too.
Given the recent rash of scammers and fraud hitting Steemit, I'm glad to see that some security features were added to warn people when responding to what might be fraudulent activity.
New features or not, the Steemit.com site continues to be quite slow and unreliable... and returns a lot of error messages. When posting, the site often "hangs" for a long time... and sometimes it's uncertain whether a post, comment or upvote went through, or not.
For me, that has sometimes resulted in double (and even triple) posting... and I'm glad to see that one of the new features in the current update is a "Delete" option when you accidentally double post a comment. I've already taken advantage of that feature several times.
Whereas I realize that the blockchain is supposed to represent an indelible record of all activity, I think it only makes sense that we be able to delete erroneous duplication. After all, there will still be a record of our activity on the blockchain, but no stupid double-comments to hang around on people's posts on the physical Steemit site.
More to Come? A Confidence Builder?
I was happy to see these updates come through just now, after the recent issues with the DDoS attacks followed by a week's worth of site instability and long load times.
Hopefully the updates will go a way towards assuaging those who have been concerned that "they" just don't really care about Steemit any more. Combined with the upcoming SteemFest2 in Lisbon, I'm hoping there will be renewed activity in the community... and hopefully the price of Steem will start ticking up again!
I still stand by my post from yesterday that Steemit needs a better communications channel between "Inc." and the developers and the site users. Whereas I can appreciate that it is super important to address technical issues as they arise, a few words at the right time are equally as important to prevent a loss of confidence in the platform.
What do YOU think? Any feelings about the new Steemit look? Have you had to use the "Delete" function on doubled comments? How is your current "confidence level" in Steemit? Are you going to SteemFest? Would you like to? Leave a comment - share your experience - be part of the conversation!

But where is the performance ? It getting worse Day by Day. Better an Old fit skin then a laxy model ...
The performance rots... and I'm not sure exactly what's going on with that. I haven't really heard any of the witnesses or techy people say much about it... but the whole having to w.a.i.t. forever for posts and possible duplication is not good. But the underlying blockchain is evidently running just fine...
Indeed , the blockchain is fine, its just the skin which is slow ....
It's been super glitchy. One post i made didn't show on My blog feed so later when i had time i reposted it and the previous one was there! Also with the "hangs" and duplicate response times... Communication from "above" would be useful for new users or those "struggling" on the platform to retain/ maintain user base. I know/ Have chatted with a few people who have unfortunstely mostly or totally abandoned the platform altogether for these type of issues. I do like the facelift. But functionally>aesthetics. Need to find a happy medium here
Yeah the "super glitchy" part is not a good thing... and you're right, people are losing interest because it becomes time consuming and frustrating to get things done. For those less patient, they'll be heading for the door... which is very sad, since we're supposed to be GROWING.
Yes. And to let you know how glitchy it is....I responded to this when I got home from work. I am now, as usual at this time, on the platform. I almost immediately went to see if my response ever went through. It did, but the box with my text in it was still up there. That usually only happens if the comment doesn't go through, or i left the comment unposted by accident. So we will see if this comment goes through in a timely manner
It's pretty frustrating, I know... I've managed to navigate today with "only" two duplicated comments. But at least it's the first day in a while I've managed to comment 30 times or so... so that's progress!
True, still takes a long time to load my comments
I like the new look but the problems are starting to deter me from the good points on here, I have just had to press vote 3 times, some may give up or think the vote has gone through, needs to be sorted asap
That's one of the things I've been shouting about for about a week now... it's one thing to be working super hard on the technology, but it's going to be very hard to win back people's CONFIDENCE, no matter how brilliant the technology might be.
Exactly, I know there is a problem as you do but others don't they will see there vote isn't working move on losing us valuable votes
I like this new look, feels appealing. See changes to the UI give me the impression that the technical issues are being worked out as well.
Right now a good portion of comments are getting duplicated. The delete option is nofty, but users should also check to make sure they only leave one comment as well.
It looks a little more professional and "modern" for sure... and also seems more viewable on mobile devices, from what I understand. However, I can't stand typing on my phone, so that part is not something I really care about.
Yes, people "should" pay a little more attention to the trail they leave at the moment... but that's probably expecting too much.
The new look is a lot easier on the eye and considering that posts are duplicating themselves, a delete button is needed. I saw some poor bugger being flagged yesterday by a person of high rep for duplicating a post; a bit unnecessary I thought and commented to that effect.
Patience is pretty important at the moment... there are just SO many glitches at the moment, and it's getting a little tiresome. I have a copy of my steemd profile open and refreshing all the time to see if the actual blockchain records what I am doing. It's a lot of work, but at least I am not making to many "mistakes" now!
This is what I just posted on the Steemit blog:
It's great that you are improving things but here is my 2 cents worth so far.
The site still doesn't work and I still can't vote so I'm using Steem Stage.
https://steemitstage.com
The tag list would be better on the right hand side where it used to be, and could be combined with the links area.
Both of those things are a total waste of space and could be drop down menus.
I often look at Steemit on my tablet and the bad use of space is a real issue on a tablet.
What I want to see is the entire first line of the post, as I could before.
And what I want to be able to do is comment and vote with no spinning wheel. On Steem Stage I can, but on Steemit I still cant.
Only thing I miss on Steem Stage is all the Steemit More Info stuff
https://steemitstage.com/steemit/@steemitblog/steemit-com-updates-design-and-security
I do use Steemitstage when things get excessively annoying... so far, it seems to have escaped the bugginess of the main site.
You mean you have times when the Steemit.com site actually works?
I haven't had any of those for about two weeks!
Its negative and nasty, but I have to say this post nails a few things I wouldn't dare mention:
https://steemit.com/steemit/@berniesanders/ned-don-t-you-think-it-s-time-to-fire-sneak-and-hire-a-real-cto
PS - I'm back using Steemit.com today and it seems to be working - we moaned and bleated, and today it all seems to be working - see, moaning does work! :)
Excuse me but I really do not understand much about the stout performance? Is it really getting worse day by day? I've read so many opinions about it that I'm not sure what's going on; but I do believe that the block chain works very well. It is not like this?
@josevasquez, the underlying Steem blockchain is running just fine and not experiencing any problems. The current issues have to do with bugs in the updated user interface (I think) causing some slowdowns and errors.
Resteem your post to 2000+ followers for only 0.5 SBD or Steem)
Just send 0.5 SBD or steem to @steemvote (URL as memo)
New Followers get 0.001 SBD$ and an upvote for free!!
Just follow @steemvote and...
Sadly, I don't think your "2000 followers" include enough real people to make this a viable offer.
I like to think I am quick to add kudos and slow to complain. That said, I think it is running near perfect at the moment!
