One Things Leads to Another, Part Two — A Visit to Land's End!

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

Yesterday, I wrote about Mrs. Denmarkguy's trip to neighboring Port Angeles to help out our young friend... who ended up failing her driving test, in the end.

As it turned out — to continue the theme of yesterday, and add insult to injury — she also left her wallet in the car yesterday, and so it ended up with US, 50 miles away.

So we got back in the car and drove back to Port Angeles to give her back her wallet... normally, we would just have mailed it, but she was needing to leave town for the weekend, and it was a weekend so the post might not get it to her in time.

The upside to all this chaos is that we did end up having a little time to get a take-out lunch and head out to the end of Ediz Hook, which is a long spit/seawall that gives Port Angeles its very large natural deep-water port.

It's an interesting trip that takes you through the old marina, then through part of the working port, then through the industrial area, and then practically through the middle of a paper factory before you drive along a 2-mile (3km) long "tongue" of land that's no more than 50 yards wide.

A look back on how we got there. You literally drive THROUGH the paper factory in the distance!

At the end, there's parking... and a Coast Guard air station that serves most of the search-and-rescue operations in the region.

At this time of the year it's pretty deserted; in the summertime it's pretty much wall-to-wall cars and people!

The view is pretty spectacular, as you are both looking across the Straits at Vancouver Island in Canada, and then backwards across the water at the city and the Olympic Mountain Range beyond.

It's wasn't a super bright and clear day, but it was still pretty spectacular... and not a bad way to get an early start to the weekend, after a week that has otherwise been pretty bumpy!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!

Good post, greetings 🌱

You are very good friends, I believe your friend was grateful for your help. Port Angeles might be quite busy place, I can imagine many container ships traveling back and fort. The day looks really grey, typical autumn day, nevertheless it is nature and we can't have only nice and sunny days :)

I love the fourth photo with the red pickup truck on and the sixth photo with the big container ship. My family and I are due to go to the Canadian west coast for holiday next year in summer. We kept re-booking a South African family adventure two years in a row due to COVID-19 so we decided to change the destination. Once we explore Vancouver we will head to the Wine region followed by the Rockies.

I had an extremely busy week at work, call after the call, meeting after the meeting with tons of work piling up. But now I am staying in an alpaca farm for three days and will go back to the big city of London on a Monday afternoon. One needs to get away from it all the more often the better!
