Making Time to Notice All the Little Things Around Us!

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

Yesterday, we finally had a sunny day!

Maybe that doesn't sound like some great worldly event, but this spring has been so wet, and cold, and rainy that even a single day of sunshine feels like a small miracle.

A few wildflowers that survived winter

Needless to say, we abandoned all indoor activities and headed outside to work in our vegetable garden for a while... it seemed a bit sad and neglected, simply because of the amount of rain and nasty weather having kept us away for a while.

But we got several beds weeded, and even though it's on the late side, they are now ready for planting new seedlings.

It's good to pause in what we're doing to just appreciate and take in what's around us. So often, we are just too busy to do so. The picture at the top is of some of the small wildflowers that managed to make it through the winter, and have self-sown this year.

Soon after turning over all the earth in the raised beds, we were joined by a small bird who seems not only quite tame but evidently felt that our efforts were specifically for the purpose of providing it with tasty snacks!

It spent a good 10-15 minutes "working" alongside us, getting itself a substantial meal.

It was a nice reminder to also be alerts to the many quite small things around us that we perhaps tend to be too busy to pay attention to, on a daily basis. Nature is really a wonderful thing!

A FEW tiny plants are starting to show themselves...

I fear a good number of our seeds may be "rotting in the ground" because it has been so wet, but here and there we are seeing first signs of life.

It's at least two weeks later than last year, but so it goes. Nature is unpredictable.

We like to grow quite a lot of our own food, and are quite grateful these days as the prices now seem to be rising at the supermarkets at a somewhat alarming rate!

In fact the whole economic situations — at least here in the USA — is making me feel a bit nervous, these days.

Originally, I was hoping to post this last night, but our Internet went out... again... which seems to be an increasingly common occurrence, so I just abandoned the post in mid-stream to finish this morning.

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the rest of your Friday!
