Finding Our Tribes... and Inspiration (Ulog No. 43)

in #ulog5 years ago

Although I most often go on retreats to — quite literally — retreat, what I most often come away from these events with is a sense of community, and inspiration.

Some might argue that it is somehow "limiting" to hang out with a bunch of people whose ideas and orientation are similar to your own, but I find that doing so helps me clarify what matters to me, and find inspiration to carry forward ideas and projects I have struggled to get going with.

The Importance of Tribes

Tribes tend to offer support and community for your ideas... often in ways you don't find in the world at large. You might think that results in thinking you're inside a small "bubble" of people who tend to agree with you... but the bottom line is that most of us pursue ideas and projects and businesses that aren't designed to appeal to everyone, but rather to a limited and specialized market.

In many cases... our "tribes."

And so, spending time with our tribes is very helpful in providing direction and inspiration.

At least... that's my story, and I am sticking to it. Aside from which, I just really enjoy being around a bunch of highly idealistic peaceniks!

The Worlds newest labyrinth was installed today...

We have two more days here, before heading back to the usual grind of the world.

Although it was definitely a financial stretch to come here, I feel the trip is proving to be worthwhile... and is offering me some new directions and ideas as I continue to process of re-inventing myself.

Thanks for reading!

Nice labyrinth. The local art museum has one - it's located in what used to be a small reservoir - and the centre of it has a great echo.

It's interesting just how many labyrinths there are around the place... currently the Worldwide Labyrinth Locator web site has more than 6,000 listed. And those are just the ones people have bothered to upload information about.

Sometimes it’s just nice to get out and break up the day to day that tends to blend into each other. Helps refocused and hopefully come back with some energy to keep fighting.

The energy at this retreat was definitely positive... and now we are back and hopefully I will find some new inspiration in the things I took back from talking to people and attending a few workshops.

I wish I could find mine, been looking all my life and not found my tribe yet...

Finding one's tribe can be quite a challenge... I feel some overlap with quite a few groups I have been part of, but none are anywhere close to what I would call a "perfect" match... and I suppose it is not really a realistic expectation to find such a thing.

But I keep trying, and hoping...
