Meeting My First Celebrity!

Ok, I admit it, I am a sucker for Hollywood news and celebrity trivia. Growing up, my parents limited how much television I could watch each day (thank you Mom & Dad). But I was allowed to watch an hour of TV from 6pm to 7pm each night, which happened to be when "Entertainment Tonight" aired, a program all about current celebrity news. I've been a fan of "Stars" every since.

Living in the Midwestern United States most of my life, I don't recall ever seeing a "real live movie star." So, imagine my delight, upon moving to the Los Angeles area a year ago! Each time I find myself at LAX, I have an eye out. Jogging by the Pasadena mansions on my morning run, I have my eye out. Making a day trip into Beverly Hills, I have my eye out.

In fact... I'm going to get vulnerable here... please don't judge... I have a fantasy that one day I will be jogging past a mansion and Johnny Depp or some other mysterious and ultra famous person will open the front gate right as I pass, pause to pick up their morning newspaper, and warmly smile at me and say "Hello." And I'll be all cool and casual like, "Hey, what's up?" nod, and keep jogging. As if it wasn't the most exciting thing to happen to me in a while. As if I wasn't going to post all about my chance encounter on social media. As if I wasn't going to tell anyone who ever mentioned their name ever again in my life the entire story of our two second encounter.

So, if you're still reading this, you either think I'm a little nuts and you don't want to live anywhere near me. Or, you totally get it.

So imagine my delight when my husband spotted Sean Dunn, actor best known as "Kirk" from the television show Gilmore Girls (I'm a huge GG fan and have watched the episodes with both of my daughters) and "Kraglin" from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. I was in Corner Bakery ordering a drink when my friend Stephanie bursts through the door waving her hands, getting my attention, (and everyone else's), saying, "Joe needs you! He's looking for you! Come now!" God bless my husband. He knows how disappointed I have been the past year in LA, not even seeing one celebrity. My husband and kids have all seen famous people on the streets around our house and even carried on conversations with them, but I haven't seen anyone. Now was my moment.

There he was, casually sitting on a sidewalk stoop waiting for his Lyft. It reminded me of that magazine feature I've always loved, "Celebs, They're Just Like Us" showing pics of celebs doing mundane things, like taking out their garbage. Yes, of course, they're just like us. But then again, they're not. After all, no one has ever come up to me on a sidewalk stoop and asked to take a picture with me and told me how great I am.

So, thank you, Sean Dunn, for humoring me and letting my husband snap a few pics before you got in your Lyft and perhaps went back to whatever mansion you may have emerged from. Maybe one day I will see you again, and we'll both casually nod at each other and be like, "Hey, what's up?"
