What's holding you back?

in #life7 years ago

If you want to know what you should be doing in life, follow the fear. Do the thing that gives you anxiety. Do the thing that makes your heart race. Fear is the true North on our life compass.

Fear is like a heavy fog. It looks solid and impenetrable. It appears to go on for miles. There may be unforseen dangers awaiting you just inside. It is ominous. It can make your task seem incredibly difficult. Fear makes us procrastinate because it's never the right time or place or circumstance.

Be brave. Make that phone call. Go to that interview. Text that girl you think is out of your league. Get on that airplane. Step out of your comfort zone. I promise you it will be worth it.

When you take those first few terrifying and precarious seeming steps, a miraculous thing happens. When you put forth the initial effort, the universe extends it's hand to help you out the rest of the way. Once you get there, on the other side of that wall of metaphorical fog, you will feel an amazing and euphoric sense of relief. You will wonder to yourself what the hell ever took you so long. You will then perhaps feel a bit silly for making such a big deal out of it in the first place and marvel at how simple it actually was. And that's totally okay.

So friends, when you find yourself putting something off, consider your own motives. Don't let the fog fool you, it's easier than you think and once you get to the other side, the sun will shine upon you. This can be the most amazing day!

I wrote this for you, with myself in mind. Also, I need to take my own advice more often.2002112_S.jpg
