Self Determined Society: Direct Democracy
We can either continue to be ruled and governed or we can live our lives self determined. We need to get focused and recognize direct democracy tools as the means by which to regain our self governance to enable us to create the policies and budgets we want in our society.
People have been looking to live self determined lives for thousands of years. Ancient Greece is popularly known as the cradle of participatory democracy. Since then humanity has still not fully embraced direct democracy tools to its advantage.
Tim Berners Lee inventor of the WWW said in a Ted Talk that he is still waiting for the web to be used for democracy. Why is society so slow to embrace their constitutional right to self governance? Politics the world over is dominated by ambitious professional politicians. Its clear that they will likely never declare their irrelavance . The media and educational systems dont inform the public of their inherent right to be the government.
Only a few rare examples of truly democratic politicians have emerged. I know of MP Patrick Boyer of Canada and Senator Mike Gravel from the U.S..
Direct democracy is used all over the world in the form of referendums and ballot initiatives.
The constiutions of many countries declare the people the right to be at the real foundation of their democratic governments. Switzerland is a country that embraces direct democracy and the results are undeniable.
The world urgently needs a global direct democracy platform to poll and aggregate "the will of the people" on pending proposals of all types before the government. The democratic decision of the group must be reflected in government by the representative. This is the path to a self determined society.
