Long walk along the river

in GEMS4 years ago

You might have noticed that I am not that active on Hive these days. I have started a new job and I am trying to balance what I was doing before with my new duties, but it is not easy. I am sure that I will improve it over time but right now I feel like I need to focus more on the job as it’s very different to what I was doing before, and therefore I have to learn a lot.

It’s an exciting time for me but it means that I have to do certain compromises. I have always enjoyed curating quality content and write long comments on the posts that I liked but right now I do not have time for this. I mainly curate posts after work for the following day, so it might mean
that I miss out on some of my favorite content creators. But this is the price that I am willing to pay to increase my starting capital for the future.

I also write less, and I think that I will start creating shorter posts, so that I can still keep in touch with my audience. I’m not talking about shitposts, but simply shorter posts which don’t take hours to prepare. I will have to do it sometimes between eating dinner and sleeping 🙂 I know that many of you do it like this all the time, but I need to slowly adjust to my new situation.

One of the positive aspects of my new job is that I started to appreciate weekends much more. When you are a freelancer and cooperate with brands you have more flexibility with your time. Being a freelancer is great, but I want to have a stable income until I open my own business, and therefore I have accepted this job offer.

I did lose some of my flexibility, but the weekends became a treat! We were blessed with some great weather last weekend and decided to spend it outside. We don’t travel yet but we try to go for a walk as much as we can.

There is a hiking trail close to our place that was closed for years. It’s on the border between the cantons and they couldn’t agree who should pay for the maintenance, so they simply closed it for public. Last year, they somehow agreed on who is going to pay for what and started the clean up
the trail. We usually walk on the other side of the river, so it wasn’t a problem for us but when they finally opened it a few weeks ago we knew that we had to see it as soon as the weather was better. And it was this weekend!

The trail is set in the woods along the river and the views from there are great. There is a part where you can get closer to the river and enjoy the power of the waterfalls. We were surprised that it was so quiet and think that it’s because people don’t really know about this place. They usually go directly to the waterfalls and walk on the other side of the river. If you ever get a chance to visit the Rhine falls, don’t only take the touristic route but try to explore the area more!

I work on the other side of the river with the view of the woods and the river as well. It’s a great place to work as I can go for a walk in nature when I feel stressed out. I was working in the same building but for a different company for 7 years and I really liked the area, so I am happy that I could come back to this place even though I was initially afraid that it would be awkward to meet my former colleagues. Well, I met a few of them already and it was nice to talk to them again.

We had lots of rain for more than a week, so everything is green and vibrant. We were happy about the rain as we had a long dry period and we have also heard that if it wouldn’t start raining the local producers would suffer and the prices would go up.

At the end of the trail you will reach the railway bridge that you have to cross to get to the other side. This is a very popular spot as you can take great pictures with the waterfalls behind you. Once, we saw a young couple taking wedding photos there. Personally, I wouldn’t do it as you have to cope with people coming from both sides of the river, but I am sure that they got pictures that they wanted.

I remember that when I came to Switzerland (almost 10 years ago) there were no love locks on the bridge (at least I didn’t see any). It was just a normal railway bridge with a path on both sides.

These days, there are so many love locks hanging on the railings! I guess that couples lock the locks and throw the keys in the river. That is indeed the safest place as just a few metres from there is the waterfall 🙂 These locks make me think about how much did change during those 10 years that I am in Switzerland. Too many constructions projects changed the city that I call my home and when I look at my older pictures, I almost don’t recognize it anymore.

We walked for about one hour before going back home. It was getting crowded on the other side of the river and we don’t want to expose ourselves to many people yet. It was very warm, so one hour was enough anyway. It was the first day this year that I was able to go out only in my t-shirt! What a treat!
