October 24, 19: Walking, PYPT, and Teaching Calculus
What can I say? I suppose you can’t necessarily be on top of the world 🌎 every day. Bipolar much? Nah, not too bad; just didn’t accomplish all that much in terms of things I can point to and say “I dood that.”
Even so, building relationships is also important and takes time...so more chatting over on Discord and then Pimp Your Post Thursday over at The Ramble. I didn’t present a post today, though. Just listened and checked out their posts.
BCH still back over my head, so I didn’t get any trades through today. Kinda’ wish I had just taken my win and been patient for the next cycle. We still might get some bearish continuation, though, volumes were falling today.
Did some thinking today; trying to see if I can develop a notion of “curvature” that avoids infinites. While Gaussian curvature is a useful notion (a measure of total curvature) and has invariance, it does have some conceptual failings in the sense that, for example, a torus has ZERO Gaussian curvature (for every positively curved part there is an equally negatively curved part); yet, without question, a torus has curvature...if fact there’s nothing flat about it!!!
On the other hand, another notion of curvature is the reciprocal of the radius of curvature (the radius of the tangent/osculatory circle). This, however, leads to absurd statements like “there is a point of infinite space-time curvature thirty-thousand light years from us” (the singularity at the center of our galaxy) and other similar nonsense.
I haven’t found any one solution, but trying to seek some combination of classical and Gaussian curvature that carries the invariance of Gauss but avoids infinites and doesn’t say that curved things have no curvature.
Additionally, I think I may have resolved the issue with bacteria and viruses when it comes to their right to self and our apparent violations of such in even mundane tasks such as washing our hands.
Most of this thinking I got done on a nice long walk. 😁😀
Was another nice day out! Still a bit windy, but excellent to be out there anyway.
Took the long route down to the lake. There were TWO pairs of swans 🦢! 😃. We have one pair that come back to the lake every year, but maybe we’ll start getting some more!
Here’s a shot at an artsy fartsy shot:
All seven zombies grasped nothing but the air of my wake. 💪
In the evening I went and did my Calculus thang. We reviewed for the second exam in that class as well, which means I have two exams to write this week! Gonna’ try not to procrastinate too badly.
