How Many Reps Does It Take To Make A Good Workout? Hmmm....

Improvement does not happen in a steady, linear manner. There is an ebb and flow, an up and down, a forward and back when it comes to bettering oneself. (BTW, that's not me.)

I was reminded of that (again) this morning at the gym.

Whatever the reason I lacked the energy to get that "one more rep" this morning. It was a disappointing session at the gym. I won't pretend otherwise, but I have not nor will I get down on myself about it. Just show up next time to have a much better session.

Anyway, the numbers...

front squat - 10x45 5x95 4x115 2x125 2x135 5x160 5x160 5x160 3x145

You will see that my heavy sets are not noted as 3x5x160 but as you read above instead. The reason is that I was not happy with my depth on several reps and so I did more that 5 reps on each set. I was pretty drained after my drop set and that may have affected what you see next.

overhead press - 10x45 2x95 2x105 2x115 5x120 4x120 4x120 4x105

No new mark here. In fact this falls short of the mark I set the last time. I did one extra rep at 115 which was a bad idea...way bad.

pull ups - 5x33.75 4x33.75 4x33.75

Nothing new here either. This was my first attempt at 33.75, so I'm not too bummed about that.

barbell step back lunge - 8x95 8x105 8x115

This is a new movement for me. The weight was pretty easy below 115, so I will start there the next time I do this.

I will be on the road for a few days so I am not sure about my lifting until next Wednesday the 10th. Should I make it in somewhere, I will post the numbers as usual.
