Greetings steemians,
Am glad to be here again after the completion of my achievement 2 post to continue with achievement 3 which teaches us to have our personal original content on steemit community, by citation of sources, use of quotations and obtaining permission from authors in order not to plagiarize.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM ?

Plagiarism academically, is a case whereby someone writes exactly what another person has written out of his own imagination, experience, creativity, reasoning like his or her own writeup without citing the source it is taken from or obtaining permission from the real owner who has written the content. In this scenario, the person who writes what another person has written without taking permission from the author has plagiarized which can lead to destruction.

FORMS OF PLAGIARISM ARE:

Self plagiarism, Mosaic plagiarism, Direct plagiarism and Accidental plagiarism.

THE DISADVANTAGES OF PLAGIARISM

Plagiarism is very bad to an extent that it causes a lot of damages such as:

  • If a student is caught plagiarizing, that student can totally be stopped from being a student.

  • It spoils what a student is known for.

  • Plagiarism gives room for failure.

  • Plagiarism causes suspension and makes a student not to continue writing an examination.

HOW CAN YOU AVOID PLAGIARISM ?

Plagiarism can totally be avoided true the following ways:

  • You can use Plagiarism checker to get to know if you have plagiarized or not.

  • You can use quotations (“”) and markup (>) when it comes to copying and pasting your sentences.

  • Inorder to clarify that a sentence, text, an ideology, images, videos, and definitions of words is not your own original content You must cite sources, by showing the link of the internet page you took the original content.

  • Writing in a personal manner will make you as a student not to fall victim to plagiarism.

  • If you must paraphrase then you must write without similarities as the original content to avoid falling as a victim of plagiarism.

HOW TO CITE A SOURCE

You can cite a source of a specific Internet page you take information, text, idea, images, videos and so on to show that you are not the owner of the original content by coping the link and putting it under the content.

EXAMPLE ON HOW TO CITE A SOURCE

In order not to implicate yourself by the art of plagiarism, you must use citation method, quote and markup.
E.g: [source](paste the copied link here)

HOW TO USE MARKUP (>) IN A SENTENCE

Markup (>) is is a form of citation that is used to present a text that belongs to another person, therefore proving that the text is not originally yours.

Example of markup in a sentence;

Plagiarism is (uncountable) copying of another person's ideas, text or other creative work, and presenting it as one's own especially without permission.

HOW TO PUT A SENTENCE IN QUOTE (“”)

The quote (“”) citation is also used to present copied sentences or text.

Example of a quote (“”) in a text
“Photosynthesis is a process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy that, through cellular respiration, can later be released to fuel the organism's activities.".
