Would you save a life if you could?

We all like to consider ourselves good samaritans and good philanthropists. We put our dollars in the red buckets in front of Wal-Mart at Christmas, we donate our $19.99 a month to the ASPCA because we cannot bear looking at those shivering animals being abused and we donate to the Red Cross when there is a disaster in our area. We pat ourselves on the back and tell ourselves we are good people and great humanitarians but are we? If helping another human being meant a serious sacrifice in your own pocketbook would you do it? I find that most people give, as long as it is not inconvenient. Most people help, as long as it does not interfere with their summer trip to Madrid. If you were asked to sacrifice and I mean really sacrifice but in doing so you would definitely save another human being, would you do it? I, don't even have to think about the answer to this question. My answer would be yes, no questions...no conditions...no stipulations. I started thinking that many people may respond yes as well but would not mean it.

I started wondering what had happened to this world in which there is so much and yet there are millions dying daily from either hunger oppressive regimes, heck even domestic relationships. How many times could we have done something, had the financial wherewithal but because it would have hurt us financially for a few months we turned our backs and as a direct result someone seriously suffered or even perished. Taking on humanitarian causes are overwhelming and certainly they are not limited. Everything from human trafficking to the refugee situation in Europe to the opiate problem in America to yes, animal abuse. Would you, as a conscious human being, do more than buy a tee shirt or a raffle ticket or put in ten hours a week to save a life if you could? I would. In fact, I plan on it. Stay tuned.
