God's Purpose for My Life | Straighten Up and Fly RightsteemCreated with Sketch.

My purpose for my life can look vastly different from God's purpose for my life, so let us examine what we know from the Bible to learn more about God's purpose in our lives.

If you know anything of Christianity you should know that God's ultimate purpose for every human being is for them to accept His Son, Jesus Christ, as their personal savior for the salvation of their soul and securing a home in Heaven near God.

Everything else about our lives follows in this axiom of accepting Christ as shown by what God has told us in the Holy Bible, His Word.

And so it is if we pay maximum attention to straightening up and flying right in Christ and the Word of God, God's purposes in our lives become almost obvious to us because whatever we are going through is ultimately for the glory of Jesus working in our lives to bring us closer to Him.

When we focus on being disciples of Christ, following in His ways as best we can, we will naturally gravitate towards our purpose with peace, hope, love and joy in our lives and expressed to others many times with opportunities to speak the truth of the Gospel message in word or action to every one we encounter.

God's purpose for my life involves being a servant of Christ and others and sharing the good news of the Gospel message.

Straighten Up and Fly Right
1 Thessalonians 1:1-4

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;

3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

Paul is talking about how we can live upright in an upside down world.

Thessalonica was a prosperous port town in northern Greece in Paul's time.

Paul, in Thessalonica, faced political correctness and false god worship of kabiri, yet it did not stop Paul from preaching the Gospel in Thessalonica.

When Paul was preaching a riot broke out.

Paul confronted an upside down world with the Gospel of Christ and whenever the upside down world is confronted by Christ there are always fireworks of some sort.

So how do we straighten up and fly right like Paul in an upside down world?

Paul gives us three gauges to fly right; work, labor and patience.

Gauges on our instrument panel of flying right as Christians.

Work of Faith Gauge
Faith cannot work if we're still holding on to our idols.

We must turn from our idols, repent and turn to the Lord so we may be seen by God as faithful by evidence of our works.

Idols we may need to turn from include self-reliance, thinking we are strong enough or smart enough to handle everything in our lives on our own. Learn to rely on God and prayer for the things in life that are beyond your control.

James 2:26

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Faith is our divine occupation and if we are going to straighten up and fly right we must have works of faith.

Not works because we think this will earn us a place in Heaven, but works that are the fruit of our faith in the grace of Christ to save us, to nourish us, to strengthen us and to drive us to want to do works because we are faithful.

Labor of Love Gauge
Love is a labor.

To love we must commit time and effort.

True love always cost us something - some kind of sacrificial giving.

There is no such thing as costless discipleship.

Love cost Jesus His life, at least until He rose again.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;

6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Patience of Hope Gauge
Patience is born out of trials of life.

In our trials we may cry, but joy comes after, but we many times must have patience without giving up faith and love before we realize the joy.

Jesus did not meet His potential on earth, but met His purpose.

He didn't heal everyone that was sick and He didn't become wealthy or privileged amongst the Pharisees.

Jesus was more concerned with meeting His purpose than His potential.

Many times as Christians we are striving to meet our potential and we lose patience.

What we should be striving for is to find our purpose in Christ with patience of hope.

Luke 12:6-7

6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Finding Your Divine Purpose
Pay attention to your spiritual gauges; work of faith, labor of love and patience of hope to straighten up and fly right and you will meet your divine purpose in Christ.

Do not put yourself down because you are God's beloved and meant for His purpose for you. Rejoice that you are saved by grace and your divine purpose is to serve Christ and others and joyfully proclaim the good news of the Gospel.

Paying attention to this broad overview of spiritual purpose in Christ will naturally lead you to the details of what your divine purpose in life is, and if it is truly from God, it should lead you closer to Jesus and your Heavenly home.

If you do not know the Lord, but realize you want to be a part of the Jesus revolution to find the real purpose for your life that God has for you, consider this prayer to accept Jesus...

Dear Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God, I believe you died for my sins and I believe you are risen from the dead, forgive me for my sins, come into my life and make me new, I surrender my life to you and I receive you as my Lord and my Savior, take my life and make it yours, thank you for your love. In Jesus’ Great Name Amen.
