Space Weather Daily Update for 10 May, 2018
Plasma Universe (NASA), MagnetoNova, Wrong Distance
The last 24 hours of the Earth Facing disc shows thing to be calmer than they look. The three bright areas currently on the disc are doing almost nothing. No solar flares and no coronal mass ejections. The solar winds that peaked 2 days ago are slowly leveling down and the Planetary K-index shows this by staying in the high green levels. Having not been checking things out in the last 24 hours, it seems as if the equatorial coronal hole is never ending, as it appears to still be wrapping around the entire Sun. I'm sure that will keep things on alert in the earthquake watch realm.
Earthquakes and volcanoes of note
- 5.6 magnitude earthquake near Tubajon, Caraga, Philippines
- 5.3 magnitude earthquake near Bitung, North Sulawesi, Indonesia
- 4.5 magnitude earthquake on the Northern East Pacific Rise
- 4.5 magnitude earthquake on the Northern East Pacific Rise
Space Objects
I'm seeing more Near-Earth Objects(NEO) found in 2018 that I remember from a couple of days ago, so they must have been added. Nothing of real concern until around May 18th, but it should still pass by far enough out to not cause any problems.
Today’s Launches
- Falcon 9 • Bangabandhu 1 - A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Bangabandhu 1 communications satellite for the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission. - On the Gaia DR2 distances for Galactic Luminous Blue Variables. What if they got the math wrong and everything was not in the spot they thought it would be in? What if they found that something was only 1 kiloparsec away and not 5 kiloparsec. Ooops!
