How my 3 year sold me on Bitcoin.

in #children9 years ago

The year is 2013
I was talking to one of my friends on the phone about Bitcoin. The idea was dazzling and impossible not to share. We were both talking about the possibility mining. I had had just read the white paper and was pretty sure it was all going to work. I had rational doubts though. The whole time my three year old daughter was drawing down on the floor.

Soon after the call she ran up to my with a mile wide grin and told me how she just made some bitcoins.

This is what she drew!

Needless to say the cuteness factor was off the charts. I did not have the heart to tell her they were not real Bitcoins at first. The story does not stop there though. She told me she wanted to sell her Bitcoins.

I went online and found an escrow site that looked alright. Enter Bitmit
NOTE: The site is now defunked after some major shadiness.

I posted an auction for the picture. Within a short time it had sold for about .5 bitcoins. The whole time explaining to my daughter Elly what we were doing and how escrow worked. She was very proud but did not totally understand it all.

After payment was posted the buyer indicated they would accept a digital scan of the drawing. My three year old daughter now had more bitcoin than I did. I was amazed at how flawlessly bitcoin worked, how crypto-currency was not just a thing but my toddler pretty much schooled me on its ease.

Then things get weird. I woke up the next day and was checking my email. The buyer sent me some pictures of the bitcoin drawing. I open the first attached image, it was a photo of the drawing held on their refrigerator with a magnet. I thought to my self I had to show my daughter Elly immediately. I showed her the photo, she was brimming with smiles telling me how cool it was. I scrolled down to the next attachment. The caption read

"Here is a picture of Elly in the future."

It was quite possibly the coolest thing I had experienced involving the internet.

Here is her drawing of bitcoins for the world to share.

After that I was sold on the whole idea. Eventually I bought miners and started selling my own products. Now I accept bitcoin for freelance work and openly evangelize.

As for Elly, she sells arts and crafts at the local farmers market. She holds savings in Bitcoin.

She is so adorable. It is amazing for them as they probably know more about bitcoin and alt coins than us in a very short time and they may be using it when they grow and not use the so called real money.

I love her a lot, and you are totally right about how quickly she picked up on it.

haha this is awesome. One of my mentors once told me about how most things are so simple for children. He was referring to recognizing trends when it came to stocks/trading.

Most of the times, kids are right about what will be the "hot product" of the year as well... most recently with those little spinner things.

That is right on the money. If my kids like something it seems that it is always the next big thing.

What smart little girl you have there! She has a nice savings account now, compared to others her age :)
And that picture of her in the future is super cool indeed! That is true connection via the internet!!

I wish I could find the original email, I would have included more info. Lol maybe I will post some of her crafts on here some time.

oh my gosh!!! SO CUTE deadsun!
