Warframe Fishing Guide

in #gaming6 years ago

Since the release of the Plains of Eidolon last year, people have scoured every nook and cranny, just looking for ways to build reputation with the Ostrons. You need that rep for making Zaws, buying blueprints, and everything else. It can be really slow going at first, but I've found a way to farm up lots and lots of rep without too much effort: Fishing.

The fishing in Warframe is a fantastic way to build up a bunch of rep, without spending too much effort. I take that back. It takes effort, but the payoff is worth it. It's also really confusing if you don't know what you're doing. There's plenty of guides out there, but there's not guides like mine! Let's get down to business.

To get started fishing, you'll need a spear. Fisher Hai-Luk will sell you one for 1000 Ostron Standing. Go do some alerts, complete a bounty or two, you'll get that pretty quick. You'll need to equip it to a slot in your gear wheel, I have mine set to 6:00, directly down. Easier to get at, you know?

Your first inclination will be to go to the big lake, but that's actually not very profitable for fishing. I've had more success over here:

There's a rock in the middle of the lake, that sets you away from Grineer influence once you clear out the camp by the big rocks. Just do a crouching jump, double jump, and then glide aim to reach the rock. Like this:

You have to equip the fishing spear before you will even see the fish, and it takes a few seconds for them to show up. You'll also notice the water is clear over here. This is important, because you need to be able to see what you're hunting. Dark water is bad news!

When fish start to spawn, you'll hear sounds like this(links to dsound). It'll shift, based on where the fish is in relation to you. Turn left if you hear it out of the left ear, right if you hear it out of the right ear. Headphones are very handy for this!

There are several fish in this area. Khut-Khut, Yogwun, and Mortus Lungfish are the most common ones. Spear everything you can, it'll be worth it!

Once you've farmed up enough, bring it to Fisher Hai-Luk in Cetus and offer it for Ostron Standing. Remember that you're capped at 11,000 standing per day, so don't donate everything if you're going to let some go to waste.

Once you have spare standing, consider picking up some bait blueprints and the Luminous Dye blueprint. Once your Ostron standing is high enough, you'll be able to make Murkray bait, which is the best fish for lower standing hunters. Seriously, you can make a killing!

Murkray bait requires fish parts, so make sure you cut up some bait along the way. You'll need that bait (and Luminous Dye) for some of the more involved fishing exploits. Luminous Dye is important, because it makes the fish glow. This is especially handy at night, when the water turns nearly pitch-black.

Isn't that handy? The Luminous Dye is all but mandatory for ocean fishing. Sharrac, Tralok, Goopolla, and Karkina tend to reside in dark waters that are difficult to find. There are a few areas that are good for coastal fishing, but one of my favorites is this one:

You can stand on the rocks and see down a long ways, and there are usually plenty of fish over here. But the real reason why you come over here?

These guys. Murkrays are always worth the effort. The small ones give you 500 standing, the large ones give you 1,000! Drop some dyes and bait, and watch them gather. Lance as many as you can, and don't hesitate to take your time in one spot. The fish will continue to respawn. I had one fishing session where I took in close to 40 murkray. I had enough fish to raise my reputation for a couple days without having to go out on the plains!

Now, there will be times where you'll have bait out, but you won't see anything. It happens to me, too. See?

Two dyes, two baits, and a whole lot of nothing. It happens, don't sweat it too much. Just wait for the respawn, and lance 'em all over again. Consider dropping different baits, if you're not getting the results you want. Sometimes a general bait can reset the spawn rates for other fish, which then draws the fish you're looking for. It's weird, I get that I'm probably wrong, but you know what? I'm just trying to help.

I collected all these images and video clips over the course of a 45 minute session. This also included two alerts, some mining, and fighting off some more of Vay Hek's ghouls. In that time, I amassed the following fish:

This came out to about 5500 Ostron Standing. Not bad, no? If I had spent a little more time farming Murkrays, I would have come up with a lot more out of it. But I needed bait parts, so I had them cut up the fish for bait instead. Still, the point stands. You can farm up a solid amount of Ostron standing without a whole lot of really hard work. Fishing is reasonably easy, and it's pretty fun!

Hopefully this guide helps you, and maybe I'll see you on the plains!
