"The idea behind the process is simple. It combines two unlimited resources - sunlight and seawater - to provide ideal growing conditions for crops in hot, arid environments."-source

What a killer idea. Their first operational model is now complete in Somalia. This bad boy actually does the opposite of traditional green houses by keeping crops COOL by doubling down on their process for distilling seawater for the crops.

Of course we have a huge waste issue where food is concerned but this solves the problem of getting food and fresh water to remote areas by creating a perfect growing environment even in the desert. This kind of tech might save us once we're out of fresh water.

Really awesome project for sure! The look kinda reminds me if those farms they wanna build on mars at some point (have thst Matt Damon movie in my mind at the moment). Great idea to provide the technology to grow enough food in areas where it wasn‘t really able up until now without the need to spend a ton of ressources to do so. Great potential for the future for sure!

Totally an ingenious innovation. Once seawater can be made useful for agriculture, definitely. the issue of the world's food crisis would be ameliorated to a large extent. The person that developed this tech should get a Nobel price in my humble opinion

its certainly a genius idea, solves a lot of problems for folks in remote and arrid areas where imports and transport logistics are so much more difficult <3

Amazing concept to grow food, and it looks like they have kind of mastered this technology (cooling and salt production in wind-driven seawater greenhouses) now, given that they have almost 2 decades of experience ( they started their first pilot in 1992) . And the good thing is that if you look at the modelling details there is one case from Gujurat, India. I will explore this more and see, if I can try to set up one at my area. Amazing hunt that will change our living.

thanks for such an awesome thoughtful comment @sanmi :)

I never imagine that we can use salt water to grow food, and this hunt provide that it's possible.

Awesome solution behind this technology. Freshwater and have good environment is beneficial for growing plants. Many peoples around the world have faced problem in getting clean water. It's quite helpful for desert areas, I think seawater for crops is good for growing plants.

This is such a great project. Years ago a Norwegian company started the research to grow crops in the dessert without a green house, using sea water, solar energy. Their system works with big fans (powered by solar) blowing wind at large carton filters (sea water dripping on the carton) pushing the water forward, while the salt stays in the carton filters. The wind with the water passes over the field of growing vegetables.

would love to see that @edje you should hunt it :D!

I didn't know projects like this was ok for SteemHunt, since it is lesser a product. Seems the greenhouse-less setup is changed to greenhouse setup. I think it is the Sahara Desert Project, not the one in Jordan, but the one in Qatar.

we do have a special section of our guidelines that apply to non tech problems that solve a major problem :) I'd say there's a fair bit of engineering at play here!

2-6. Innovative Engineering/Design Products (It may cover non-tech products that have been invented based on high-level engineering/design approach to solve a major problem)

I'd love to see more about the Sahara Desert Project :D

Is not the Sahara Forest Project in Jordan ? Great project...

The project was in Qatar, but I think it is the same organisation as the one in Jordan. Qatar project: Now apparently with green house, but years ago they started without the greenhouse. If growing can still be done without green houses, the whole setup can be more simple and therefore easier to deploy. But I guess without the cover and keeping the most air in one place, the setup will be less effective.

Thanks for the information. I'll look further about this two projects, very interesting to solve many problems in same time.

Yes, it is a killer idea!
A large portion of the earth consists of desert and barren land where organic and other crops cannot be produced. African countries are starving because of food shortage and their economic conditions are not good to bear the expenses of imported food products.
This technology would be revolutionary if it gets success in all uncultivated lands of these countries.
Awesome hunt. Best of luck!

thanks adnan!

Brilliant hunt from @dayleeo

This project is simply convert seawater into agriculture use.

Very new thought,In every 1000 ml there is 35% sea water.

We cont use directly, we need to convert this.

Seawater Greenhouse is best solution to convert agriculture use.

We need more such Technologies.

Thanks for sharing, Happy Hunting

Seawater for growing food... That's look incredible mod @dayleeo . It's like using something from nature that we thought was dead water as a new energy to give life to plants.

Congratulations for the 1# rank today mod.
